Yugoslavia and Lebanon in their darkest times provide close examples.

What will USA look like? One giant, skittish, isolated Israel, without a sugar daddy.

    Afghanistan PART-II

An easier job was Afghanistan, and look at what has happened and in which way it’s going. Is it really that difficult to guess what will happen to Iraq?

A trip down neo-con fantasy lane:
    • The US will only be in Iraq "temporarily" - just like we've temporarily been in Germany, Japan, S. Korea, the former Yugoslavia, and now Georgia, Uzbekistan, etc.
    • Iraq will be a shining beacon of democracy, when observed by all the other autocratic Arab regimes in the Middle East, will provide a model for peaceful, democratic change. Just like all of the efforts the US has made to usher in democratic reforms in Arab countries in the past, like... well, I'm sure there must be some.
    • This will cause a decrease in terrorism. The occupation will not be massively resisted on all fronts. We'll be real popular, like in Afghanistan.
    • We'll "covert them to Christianity," like Ann Coulter says we should, because... well, all real Americans are Christian, right?
    You get the idea.

    :m: Peace.

This is a bit off-topic,but when I was a child in the 50s we used to go passed Manston airport fairly often,& the Americans had it,any way all along the road were machine guns & big signs which said if you stop you will be shot.
I asked my Farther what would happen if we broke down on that stretch of road,he said lets hope we don't.
Goofy's post just reminded me of it!
