No one, never have. Any site I've ever been a member of, actually. I quite enjoy a good punch up.

Is there a purpose in having someone on ignore, really?
Can't you just ignore them if you don't like them, and have the option of paying attention when you wish, and just delete their pm's unread?
I guess if someone were really harassing you ignore could save you some time.
Perhaps i don't know about all the features available, maybe there are some cool things about "ignore" I don't know about.

I had 3 members on my ignore list because way back we did some kind of experiment with the ignore list in some thread and there was some kind of rule that you had to have 3 on it. Otherwise you got some kind of error message. I can't remember how it went. It was a long time ago.

:) ... If only. No, me and CS haven't even come close to an issue, let alone punch up. Besides, faults mine in that regard anyway. I'd always been assuming he acts obtuse just for the sake of it and consequently only ever really taken the piss out of the poor little fellow. Bad show more on my part than his. I find just ignoring the assumption he's meaning to get up your nose in the first instance works better than pretending he isn't there.

Besides, I tend to admire people who can maintain absolute conviction and certainty. I may not at all agree with it, but I find it an often times admirable trait - when in the mood.... ;)

I was anti-ignore, but have since realised it tidies up an otherwise unkempt thread.
I thus see 'using ignore facility' akin to gardening. If there are weeds in the flower bed, I dig em' up and throw them away.

I add & remove on a whim. If members misbehave, in the garden bin with them, if they are part of the landscape they may remain in view. Depends on the weather I am experiencing at the time.

Anyway, its all good fun.

The only person I have on ignore is CS. The reason is simple: he contributes nothing. He doesn't ever have anything interesting to say, he doesn't pay attention to people's arguments, he makes liberal use of logical fallacies. He's a troll and he doesn't contribute anything. Does anybody disagree with me about that?

Why do you care? I don't understand why people care (like leo seems to do hence the thread) whether they are on someones ignore list or not. If they don't like you, it's generally the case you don't like them. So they cant see you, who gives a shit?

Ignore feature is the ability to make someone cease to exist. Bearing in mind that in this forum scenario, the posters only 'exist' in your reality while they

I think this a bully dilemma, they can't bully if their intended 'victim' has 'killed' them.

If you can take them and if what they say is retarded and insignificant then you become indifferent to them.
Nothing they say bothers you and so you have no reason to ignore them.

The ignore function as far as I'm concerned is a way to try and stop some of the verbal personal attacks that people have here on sciforums. If one party complains that moderation isn't enough then simply telling them "Use your ignore list" allows them to self moderate all of the persons posts that they no longer want to hear from.

This can be both good and bad, since sometimes there are people that ignore those that challenge their posts which in turn means they don't listen to reason and just keep posting the same scifi stuff.
