I have 2 dobs, and I want to sell them and buy a refractor. Just want something more portable, and that you dont have to keep getting up and all to move.

dob 1 (bought from guy who builds them, so kinda homemade)
    4.25 inch reflecter
    50" long tube
everything is with it, like the dob base and such
ill probably throw in eyepieces when selling, but ill leave that out right now.

thats it in the image, but I got a talrad instead of those black crappers.

    dob 2 (i made myself)
    7.5 inch reflecter
i think the tube is 60" long (i doubt that even matters)
mirror is fully coated and all..
spider was homemade. if i upgade, do i expect more?
ill probably pick up a 2nd talrad to put with this one if i sell them both. They are both sharing the same one.

the above image is how i did my spider. I dont have a picture of the actual scope.

I'll take a crack at it...

A used, custom-made Dobsonian is worth about as much as the quality of the parts putting in to it. Unfortunetly, the majority of those who are looking for a dobsonian are looking at name brands. Be fair... no one is going to know your scope from Adam, so how do they know they aren't buying junk? You never know how a scope performs untill you look through the eyepiece. I promise you I'm not trying to be a hard-nose here, but that is honestly the way it is.

Guessing the 4.5 is in good working order with no cosmetic blemishes (some people would descriminate over a scratch), it would probably fetch you around $100 or so. That is about 50% of the price of a new 4.5 inch Dobsonian, made by a respected dealer like Orion.

The 7.5 inch will get you a lot more...or will it? It is a large apature insturmentm but again... home made. You might get $200, possibly $250 for it if you really push for it...
