i would like to save some nice movies and make a collection. is there any way, any software for doing that?

Firefox has an extension called VideoDownloader, but youtube changed the way their player works so you can't download their videos anymore. I'm sure there is something similar which will do the same job.

The videos are in .flv (flash video) format

I have always wanted to save some, but I was too lazy to figure it out myself. Thanks for the motivation.

I use NetTransport from Xi. I used it with the live feed of the "deep impact" mission. the live feed was so choppy that I used net transport to get a buffer and watch it smoothly with a couple second delay.

just get the video file from your cache and save it? or are they streaming videos?

I'm on BT Broadband Option 3, so it took half a day. Each one is around 250Mb

It had to happen, once it's viewable by me on my monitor, there MUST be a way to save it. No matter how a friend of mine also in IT says it's impossible.

Anyhoo, another option folks:

Been trying it out for a few days, works great. Its interface is a bit clunky, but that's minor. It gives the flv output, which you'd need a FLV viewer for (I imagine you guys know that tho).
Or, alternatively, get yourself a video converter to port the FLVs back to AVIs or iPod vids or something :)
