Well, bots are little programms that scan websites for various information, for example the google advertisements on this site are appropriate for keywords picked up from the posts. Those bots can also be used to gather email addresses or ICQ numbers and whatnot. This information would be used to spam the owners of those addresses. But that is only a possibility. (not a very unlikely one, some days ago, spam mails started to appear on my Gmail account, and there are only three places where this email address can be read.)
