But a soul does exist. Wihtout soul there is no being or thought or action. This headless wonder is an allegorical attempt by the gods to define what a soul is.

Without the brain there is no thought or action. This chicken had it's brain stem intact for the most part, and therefore it was able to live, somehow. It must have been in pain and confusion for the rest of it's days, wondering what happened to sight, sound, and smell.
