View Full Version : has anyone had to do jury duty? Engulfed_Door 04-01-08, 04:14 PM is there a way to get out of it by saying you just don't want to do it? MacGyver1968 04-01-08, 04:17 PM Usually not, or no one would show. Try telling them you can always spot a guity person. shorty_37 04-01-08, 04:21 PM is there a way to get out of it by saying you just don't want to do it? No that won't work! They don't give a shit. My mom was dying of cancer when he got his notice that he had been selected. He told them his wife was sick and ill and that he needed to drive her to the hospital almost everyday for treatments, and he just couldn't do it. The didn't give a shit and said he was to show up anyway. Finally he got a note from their Doctor to give to them saying he wasn't fit to take part. They even argued that!!! He had to sit for 3 hrs before someone would actually take the dr.'s note he had and then finally realeased him from jury duty! Engulfed_Door 04-01-08, 04:32 PM No that won't work! My Dad is.........maybe he should have tried that! MacGyver1968 04-01-08, 04:36 PM I've been called 3 times, and have never actually served on a jury. The first two, I just waited in the Jury pool room, and they never picked me. The last time, I got picked for a jury, but the defendant pleaded guilty at the last second, so they didn't need us and we got to go home. It's great pay too!! Like $7 a day or something. I honestly don't understand how people on the jury of a trial that lasts months, don't go broke, or lose their job. MacGyver1968 04-01-08, 04:37 PM what if I say I'm racist? That might work, just start dropping "n-bombs" as soon as you hit the door. nietzschefan 04-01-08, 04:44 PM That might work, just start dropping "n-bombs" as soon as you hit the door. they hold you in contempt ...apparently... Engulfed_Door 04-01-08, 05:44 PM well I guess I'll just have to go Syzygys 04-01-08, 06:28 PM Try to be smart. Don't be obvious, but say something that makes one side not wanting you. Like if the defendant is black, you might express that you believe blacks commit more crimes. The whole point is that you should be looked like a prejudist... http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Out-of-Jury-Duty http://www.askmen.com/fashion/how_to_60/98_how_to.html cosmictraveler 04-01-08, 07:33 PM is there a way to get out of it by saying you just don't want to do it? Why not? Engulfed_Door 04-01-08, 09:05 PM Why not? Are you asking me why I don't want to?? Well its 150km drive everytime I have to go where it is. Even though my work pays for me to go, they only pay me on days I am actually supposed to be at work. The first day is on a day off, so I'm already being screwed at least once. Orleander 04-02-08, 06:34 AM I had the same experience as Mac. I think that is the norm. You go and see if they pick you, all the while the criminal is making a deal and pleading out. Of course I remember the time my Dad went, got picked, and they sequestered the jury. Being from another country he considered it an honour. |
