    Hello

I need to know what makes a system hangs, particularly mine
Here's the data,in case it may help

    1.7GHz P4
    256 DDR
    60GB, 20GB unoccupied
    64MB VGA
    soundcard onboard
(i forgot the name of my motherboard)
    XP system

Here's some stuffs that may help

    -the hanging happens randomly
-when I run my WInamp 2.91, everytime it plays a midi there's a pause, in which my system stops responding
-I often use my PC for 3d gaming
-Though it often hangs when there are many applications running at once, sometimes it hangs less than 5 minutes after startup

    Any help?

Check for conflicts in your system. I keep forgetting where that is on xp.. Start/settings somewhere. Check for exclatmation marks. Update drivers, reinstall,...

Run scandisk (or equivalent) and defragment the hard drive. When scandisk starts because of inproper shutdown, always let it finish. It can restore errors.

Run an up to date virus scanner. There's a free one at www.free-av.com.

Run adaware 6.0. Remove all crap.

If all fails: backup, format and reinstall.
