All are invited to join the Sciforums team to crunch for SETI. If you are already doing this then you can join the team through the Berkeley Seti site. Should you need help then contact me.

If you are not crunching for SETI then you can go to this site for the download to do so. It has a nice screen saver.

The program is self installing and configuring, once you start the download. If you use this program, do not use seti@home. This program is for Windows. When the download finishes, you will have to hit the ctrl key to start the install process.

I am now a member of Seti.Netherlands, for almost a year.

If I leave there, I can take the Work Units with me to Sciforums.com. Well, I shall it give a thought. Just a thought...for now...

Actually, the only work units that will count are those that you complete *after* joining the team.

 

Well, then forget about it...

I struggled to make these WU's you know. I got stuck at 36 in December.

Had to ask the Christmas Seti at the S@NL Forum to help me out.

He gave me over 100 WU's and from there I climbed my way up to the measley 241 I have now. So I better stay where I am with my Work Units. Pity for Sciforums.com...

Anyway, I'm only running a 500Mhz system (with 756Mb RAM)
So it's going to take me more than hours to catch up lol

I was considering on trying to work out how to parallel my computers through my LAN network to utilise multiple processors (since they are all small processors they could be put together to make up 1.2ghz)

I'm not too sure how to do that though

Are your computers already hooked up to the LAN? If so, all you need to do is run the SETI client software with the same user account on each machine (this is allowed). Let me know if you need any help setting things up.

 

So far so good, I sometimes have the laptop running, but I know I have to be careful as it doesn't take too much to fry it, it gets all sensative about heat, especially its power supply.

It's first unit took 60 hours while most of mine are taking 20 on the machine that I primarily use.

Anyway, just a couple of thousand modules, (Or 100 thousand hours) to go before I get to number 1 of the Sciforum's Crunchers

I just crunched another unit... in 4 minutes !!!!!!!!!!

Okay there must of been a whole lot of noise that day, but that puts me up another unit... *I wonder how many of them I'll get*

I'll pass that through to some of my 'colleges' at S@NL. The quikest cruncher there makes a WU in 9 hours. The most of them have more than one computer running, only to make WU's.

I think my 4 minute unit must of had very heavy radiation background interference for that day, as I have no others as quick, but it was worth mentioning as it zoomed me up the ladder a little.

I've been away from my puter for a week or two so my units are less than before (Although I was crunching through my laptop)

I've just been utilising SetiQueue on my LAN to help with getting workloads since it's been difficult to get workloads.

(Just out of interest, www.setiqueue.org is where you can connect to now to get setiqueue, I suggested the .org and luckily the guy who programmed it, grabbed it up, so it's easier to find.)

Don't drool over such spanky doodar hardware, you might short it out. I don't have one of those beasts, but I'm going to start trying to convince people that it would make a nice collection to my arsonnel.

 

Just did my longest unit, okay I was running my Pentium 100 with the commandline version (and OS).
Nearly 3 Days in Hrs. Poor little 100Mhz.

not that i think i will be of much help, i can only use that on dads computer and i don't get on there much

 

Umm, got a peak of 72.42. SETI will investigate anything over 30 as a good possible. Because this one is on frequency it is probably a nearby satellite. But interesting that it would show up.

 

Wait wait wait wait, is this SETI@home thing some kind of online program? I can see it's a screensaver that runs when you're not using it, but where does it get the data from? Downloaded from some whopping dish somewhere?
