Actually, and I hear this from the History channel, Vikings never wore horned helmets. That idea apparently came from certain depictions of the Vikings in which they were presented as horned devils.

 

I kind of thought it was common knowledge that the Vikings didn't wear pointy hats.

I can't quite remember how that came to be, but I think [like Mystech pointed out] that it had to do with them being depicted as demon-like.
