Germany’s gas reserves are supposedly at their highest level ever.

A warm winter is forecast for Europe, but apparently some residents can't appreciate that possibility because of the inference that it is due to climate change.

    Collectively paraphrasing:

"No, no. I'd rather freeze to death than accept charity from an evil bastard. Please don't force a temporary benefit of your menacing nature upon me. The future is what I unselfishly care about, not the present. " [Monotonous stream of other self-righteous amd public displays of pretentious piety probably continuing...]

Should do. I believe EU has contingency plans in place should there be a need. Might mean some slightly colder rooms, but shouldn't be too onerous. I think they're turning the heating down by 1-degree in public buildings, and encouraging others to do the same, all to try to reduce consumption and make reserves last longer. All sensible stuff.
But, as CC says, a warm winter is forecast. A particularly cold spell during December, possibly, but overall quite a mild winter.

I am surprised they can forecast a winter's weather in advance.

Long term forecasts used to be the object of mirth

Have they greatly improved in the last few years to make any such prediction at all reliable?

Forecasting in general has improved markedly in the last few decades. But with something like this forecast for winter, they have reasonable models of past La Ninas, and it's a significant driver for the general weather outlook in Europe, so I'd expect it to be broadly correct. The timings may change somewhat, and they're not predicting specific temperatures for certain days with any accuracy, just a general overview at this stage.

What makes gas a non renewable resource considering it’s over 80% of the universe?

    <<<<--- counting firewood)

With the reserves, Germany could be good for a couple months.
Perhaps Europe erred when turning over it's foreign, monetary, and energy policies over to the most powerful military coalition on the planet. Have they voluntarily turned themselves into a military dictatorship?
Will their citizens be collateral damage?

Germany's situation is probably akin to Austria's.

Jan 8, 2023 - UK manufacturers fear blackouts and job losses after energy subsidy cut

EXCERPTS: Almost two-thirds of manufacturers in Britain fear blackouts this winter amid the fallout from the energy crisis, according to an industry survey, as concerns grow about government plans to cut financial support for businesses.
    _

[...] Despite heightened concern among industry leaders, wholesale energy prices have fallen sharply over recent weeks after a period of relatively mild weather in the UK and Europe.

[...] Of course, many bills may still go up. But compared with some of the bills companies were facing before [current government support was introduced], the current levels look decidedly more manageable.”
