Dirty bombs don't need fissile material (e.g. uranium)... they only need radioactive material that can then be dispersed with conventional explosives. I'm not sure how close you still need to get to the core to find sufficiently radioactive material, though, but get some such material (e.g. radioactive rocks, dust, metal fragments etc) and strap them to a conventional explosive... you have yourself a "dirty bomb".

Nah Russia will be blowing something lower down when its economy collapses and it's desperate for help from real countries that innovate, rather than depending on big neighbours who just copy what smarter people in free countries did and then brag like they're gonna take over the world in 50 years.

Getting off topic but the free countries success was built on the backs of immigrants from other countries escaping poverty or worse. (the brain and human/other resources drain)

But of course the free world only exists in its present state because it fought for its existence against the likes of Putin in the past.

No need to demonize the Chinese when their leadership does such at good job in that respect

Do you think the west will use the SWIFT sanction?

Did I hear Biden say that they would find a way around it?

Maybe China(or Russia) will be Putin's Achille's heel?

If Russia continue (as seems likely) and the current level of sanctions don't hit deep enough. But that will take time to recognise. If there are any more surprises in their actions then it may come sooner.
"The Swift Sanction" (sounds like a book by Travanian) is seen by many as the "nuclear" option, and if so you don't really want to use it straight off the bat. However, there's always the risk that by the time the West decide to implement it, Russia will have found a work-around, possibly via the Chinese, so the "nuclear" option may become a bit of a dud.

    No.
    Russia using the
Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication
keeps them trading oil in US dollars, which keeps the dollar strong
Denying Russia the use of the swift system would be like shooting ourselves in the foot.

Yet Biden has said that both the US and UK have already proposed that sanction, and that it is the EU that didn't want to go that far (yet). So seems Biden thinks that self-inflicting a limp is worth the negative impact it would have to Russia.
Let's be clear, though: no sanction will come pain-free to the West. Everything they deprive Russia of will impact the West in some manner. The global economy will suffer, specific sectors will suffer, fuel prices will spike etc. That economic cost is seen as something we should be willing to endure - possibly for the long-term - for the "greater good".

Would a global economic downturn do anything in the fight against climate change? (buy us time?)

Not sure if there was any such benefit noticed over the past couple of years with the pandemic.....

Not really. The majority of the damage being done would likely continue at the same rate. Plastic consumption may drop very slightly with fewer items sold, but not significantly so. Fuel would still be burned at the same rate - just cost more. In fact, I'm not sure it would be expected to make any difference at all.
Fewer cars on the road, planes in the air. Some consumer areas might have produced less. That's probably about all.

Do you really carry such hatred that Ukranians should have to suffer?

So when you see the old woman lamenting outside her bombed apartment complex, or babies evacuated from ICU to shelter in a basement, or the burned and wrecked bodies of Ukranian soldiers, remember to take a moment and taunt the U.S., because, yeah, firing on Ukranian residential areas and bombing Ukranian hospitals and invading Ukraine, yeah that Puti-Toots is really showing us Americans what-for. When you see the fourteen year-old under a tarp, beside her wrecked bicycle, or watch the CCTV footage of Russians killing her, make sure you cheer and shout, "Take that, USA!"

Or did you want to think that through, again?

Inasmuch as any of this leads to direct Russian confrontation with the United States, Putin is afraid of Americans.

And remember, at this point Putin's war isn't going very well, or else it is; the difference is in what the war is actually for.

really im pathetic for taking issue with your mindless bigotry. your literally blaming people that have nothing to do with the conflict. we get it you hat muslims that has fuck all to do with the fact putin doesn't view ukraine as a legit state or legit people. this isn't you here vlady protecting people for the evil muslims. this is a despot waging a war of conquest. get a grip man. try to show a single shred of human decency here. i think you need to take a good long look in the mirror because you raqnting about muslims in a thread about a russian invasion of ukraine, 2 christian slavic nations, since you seem a little confused on the ethnicity and religious identity of those involved makes you sound like a nutjob.

looking at the troops placements he intends to take half the country as a minimum
im guessing up to the river possibly giving concession on the capital for bargaining.
the river is a good natural boundary & secures land access to Crimea.
    (the optimist in me speaking)
    speaking strategically ...

putin doesn't need the capital, he just needs to be seen enforcing a 50/50 split of the country to support the Russian ukrainians and bring face back to Russia
like the old east versus west Berlin but probably a softer border if there is no firing weapons.

but it feels like he intended to take the whole country when i look at the maps, but i think that's the bluff to avoid having a hard border with NATO
avoiding a hard border with NATO would be in both sides advantage
assuming the border is not an active war zone.

watching the ukranian refugees is heart wrenching stuff
you can see they are educated modern people whom can contribute to a high functioning modern reality if not for the war.

but neither side will back down so it appears and nato the UN and USA have failed to bring russia and the opposing ukranian forces to the bargaining table for 8 years.
its been a proxy american bi-partisan puppet like media picture portrayed at the expense of the ordinary ukranian and surrounding areas

    the war is a cancer
the longer it goes on for the more damage to every thing elses.

imagine if the trump administration had spent its time being a mediator instead of grand standing on nationalistic new right wing ideologies.

    meanwhile a
all those middle eastern and African covid war and economic illegal migrants flood through destabilizing the entire European nato borders
feeding radical extremist conflict in many places
places that the usa has run away from and the media choose not to report on.

all most people see is what they think is junk food TV news one liners
and that makes up their perception
or the likes of PJ maligned self importance of conflicted self valuations

not seeing the Forrest fire for the trees burning while looking for something to rail against in a stereo typed bi-polar association to "make things easy" on himself to feel washed clean of guilt.

we have seen global expansionism in many forms with massive shortages and struggle with covid as a quiet economic war took place for food resources and vaccines

we have seen the jockying for position of new oil drilling
we have seen a positive move by russia to supply germany with gas

but still we see the vile vitriolic media being produced by those who are pro war and pro division, who seek to divide and take what others need and have.

covid-19 has shown the disparity of resources, access and above all mineral and food security.

surely this move by Russia is not a surprise

so where have all the diplomats been ?
what have the leaders been doing ?
    hiding behind their own money
choosing to play nationalist hedging to avoid loosing voter support while usa pushes hard on neo-nationalism

i am not surprised russia has decided to properly support one side in the civil war to force an end to it.

the cancer of war must be cut out if it cant be cured.

You should spend less time posting here and more time talking to therapist to deal with what ever damage makes you hate not white people. Seriously your posts here in this thread are some of the most disturbing things I’ve ever read on the internet that wasn’t an overt threat.

im not sure why you say putin is stupid
    he certainly is not
he had to be in a small percentage of intellect to get to his previous job and then again into the presidency
and then again to hold it for soo many years
    all the while avoiding war
now he is not avoiding war

he is using war to solve war
which is usa American brand fire for fire just like all those bible belt preachers and evengalist americains preach and how all the NRAA gun lobbyists preach

putin is playing the pro gun lobby card

    using force to create peace

    force to end force

but the west have failed miserably to bring all parties to the table for 7 long years as the countrys have been smashed

the UN & NATO have been sucker punched into playing trumps ego-name-calling-game
    and in soo doing
    they have failed
they have taken the bait and sat on their hands to be
    the weak do nothing 'thing'
that they were made out to be
    now they are weak
    putin is being strong

putin is playing the americain hand pro actively like usa has been in all other countrys when there was no super power sitting behind their opposition.

usa republicains and pro trump supporters will be bragging how trump created the war soon
it looks like trump did create this russian invasion by playing with NATO the UN, the WHO, Tukery, Germany, Nordstream, ... i wont continue naming

it looks like usa has deliberately spent years trying to cause war in europe as they say its not their problem
while they claim to be leader of the free world

what is wall st doing ? controlling the worlds finances

but everyone wants to pretend the usa and wall st have been doing nothing
and everyone wants to pretend there has not been a civil war raging in Ukraine for the last 7 years being ignored by the west

cant ignore it now can they
but its too late for them to play their advantages
they sold themselves down the river playing nationai8sltic global control media games bullshit
all trying to get themselves elected again
as foreign policy was put to the torch
and global funding was deliberately wiped out & withdrawn
& everyone scavenged and begged for PPE from china

all those years the trump administration attacked its own FBI
    while removing foreign funding
    withdrawing troops
& blaming the UN for being a conspiracy and the WHO & NATO
    pulling out of NATO
    making Europe weak

& suddenly your blaming russia ?

had anyone stopped to simply apply common logic
they would have seen russias hand being forced by the west to take control of the region
but everyone is too afraid of loosing their own job
so they just kiss the politicians ass
now you have caused this situation

what is your proposed solution to 7 years of civil war ?
