My local Winco was a bit smarter, their signs set a purchasing limit on high demand items to a certain number per family.

Seems to me there isn't much point in our staying home for two weeks. The virus hasn't arrived in our city yet, so we can't have been exposed, and now would be the safest time to go out. By the time our supplies run low, Covid will have arrived here, and we'll have to go out when the chance of exposure is higher than in the next two weeks. But it doesn't matter: the stores will need that long to restock anyway.

I understand that, but even with the regular flu season, I would barely come down with a mild cough. It has only been over the last 3 years that I have started getting the flu inject, after insistence from my insistent doctor.
Again understood. The point I was making was that getting the common variety flu shot and help preventing catching the flu, would keep one's system up to scratch and not have it weakened for the coronavirus to take advantage of.
Agreed, but still as is often said, "cleanliness is next to godliness" and I find it a great tradition.
Yes, which is why we have taken some extra precautions, and of course the obvious everyday effort for sanitation and hygiene.
Probably not but I am of the opinion that every little bit is of benefit in some small way.

Just come back from the shops and the usual crazy panic buying evident. Bouquet to our Woolworth stores should be mentioned. They have a period tomorrow morning between 0700hrs and 0800hrs when only old farts and the disabled are able to access their stores to obtain the essentials that other idiots are hoarding with crazy panic buying. What a fantastic initiative!!!!
I'm an old fart by the way!

You don't have any transients visiting your city?

Oh, how I miss them!! Of all the stores and business we've lost, I miss Woollies the most.
Not too many. No transportation hub, no international business, and very little tourism in winter. Now, even the spring break families have cancelled their trips.
But that was this morning. At dinner time, the local health authority announced two confirmed cases. Elderly couple just returned from a cruise. They're not sick, apparently; one of their contact on the ship is. Anyhow, they're out of circulation.

Just got back from Woolies after picking up some water, 24xpack Anyway I noticed only four cartons left, and this rather large woman in front of me, proceeded to load a carton into her trolley...then another carton, and yes then a third carton. Seeing what her intention was, I pushed in and grabbed the last carton and stuck it in my trolley. She got all uppity and angry about it, claiming it was hers, and not liking me telling her to get stuffed when I refused to give it to her. Luckily a store security woman was handy and saw what was happening...came up and told me "not to worry and take it to the checkout, then called the Woolies staff over where they made this woman, put two cartons back leaving her with one. It was a joy to behold seeing her get stuck firmly in her place!!!

Many stores are setting limits, and several have instituted early shopping hours for seniors only - so we can get in and out before anything's been touched. Just as well, since they're also cutting back opening hours.

PS - why water, ffs? The mains aren't going down with flu!

Why do you think you need to stock up on water? I mean, if the absolute worst thing that happens is that you have to drink from the tap, well . . .

I went to local Woolies three or four days ago and out of toilet paper but things were rather normal I thought...went up this time yesterday and shelves bare all over, no flour, no frozen vegetables, no meat, ...I managed the last packet of miserable sausages and bought a ham for meat and I don't really like ham. Got the cars sorted and it seems the transporter company have shut down last email said the girl I had been dealing with was in quarantine...so maybe the shop has gone down..no one is answering calls So that stops me leaving town..not happy.
Funny thing.. there were two workers loading all the magnum ice creams in trolleys like clearing it out...internet shopping ????
Out of boredom I am playing a game. Buying and selling CBA shares with $100,000 pretend bank roll. I am up $5000 first day...bought back in at $64 a share looking for a small jump in the morning sell half to buy in if they fall to sixty..etc. anyways most entertaining.

Just checking in to say I have had a niggly dry cough all day and a faint suspicion of muscular aches and pains. In accordance with UK government instructions, I am now self-isolating at home (avoiding being in the same room as my son, using a different bathroom, sending him to do the shopping). By tomorrow morning I should have a better idea of whether or not I've got this lurgi: I'm expecting my temperature to go up. We shall see.

Actually not too bad this morning, cough seems to have almost gone already, temp 37.1C, some flu-like aches and pains after a disturbed night feeling achy and feverish. I'll have to see what happens to the temp this pm (usually that is when mine tends to go up) and then wait, I suppose, to see if any further nastiness manifests itself. But so far so good, so steady as she goes......

Thanks, Janus. I'll provide another update tomorrow. It may help some of the more concerned readers to hear a first-hand experience - assuming it doesn't all go pear-shaped overnight
