    • Do not threaten other members of sciforums, or you will be banned.
no it is really about protecting your own back side.
for less than 100 bucks I can find out your home address, your mobile and a few other interesting details.
I can also for a few more dollars get some one to download illegal content onto your PC, lap top of mobile and call the police with an anonymous tip.
Next thing that little bit of pleasure you decided to rape someone of "to try and toughen them up" will cost you a few years in the hole.

One day you may wake up and find a disgruntled member sitting at the foot of your bed with a bit of nasty in his hands.
You might cry out,"I was only trying to toughen you up" and his response might be. "Well, so am I."
    recall: "Globalization means what?"
It's called respect and it works to keep you and others safe.

Do you believe you deserve respect? and why?

there are a couple of common denominators involved.... just need to look at who posts off topic first...or tries to flame someone into posting off topic...

A well known sceptic's forum used to export members to deliberately destroy any meaningful discussion here at sciforums about 8 years ago....
That said, intra-forum competition can and does get nasty sometimes. Especially when they have an ideological agenda.

One of the reasons I run provocative threads every now and then is to draw them out.

That would make you wind up in the hole, not me. Are you threatening me?

    Of course not.....
    Why do you think that?
It's just that you or I have absolutely no idea who you or I maybe messing with. Behaving respectfully solves most of the problem. Anonymity as does Globalization works both ways.

Who is being disrespectful? We were chatting yesterday and now you are threatening, WTF?

Are you upset with my Landmark Forum course comments?

You can use the dollar sign by setting it in italics.
    $16.00

Won't help you in the posting integrity or respect department - you are who you are.

I'm not worried about that. I speak my mind. I'm not disrespectful unless someone is in my face giving me crap of course and I don't do anything illegal so I have no worries.

I even used my real name in some of the earlier forums. It's easy for someone to find out your name or address if they want to. I'm not concerned with that. Just because of virus's and scams I'm a little more careful now especially around financial sites.

You seem to imply I need to tell you why I should be respected? I feel no need for that. Others make that judgement.

As a matter of fact, the best run smaller forums are largely member self-moderated in the sense that if you have a small group and everyone knows each other a bit, it becomes clear when people are just kidding, when someone steps over the line then "social" pressure tends to keep people within the forum norms. If you know someone you aren't likely to be mean spirited. As far as I can tell Iceaura is basically maladjusted or mean spirited. I don't see anyone being interested in spending time with him in the real world.

Rainbow, who knows what's up with him? It all uninformed judgement comments plus word salad. Tiassa, he is in the Iceaura category as far as I can tell.

Everyone else has potential for being friendly, weird at times (which is fine) and capable of being interesting as well if they can get over nothing but woo. A little woo goes a long way.

That works here in small measure among the few that actually talk to each other. Most attack and talk past each other.

I found the "what do you do" thread interesting for those who posted and made some small chit chat.

It's annoying when all you know about someone is that they have a theory of pixy dust and they can't spell and you have to guess what they're trying to say in every post and you don't even know if they are "normal" enough to be able to make chit chat or to have any interests other than fighting "Republican Propaganda" or "My theory of gravity" or "capitalist american self-interest California word salad...blablabla".

Who wants to talk to anyone like that? That is actually the disrespect that everyone should think about. That is turning every thread into a mockery with word salad IMO.

A good example of one upmanship:
So far the cost of it has been:
Oil tankers damaged, drones shot down, threats to kill millions etc all because a sitting POTUS decides to withdraw the USA from a nuke agreement with out having anything to replace it with, just to spite the previous POTUS.
For what appears to be white supremacist reasons and motivations we have the incredible situation where voluntary nuke regulatory controls are now missing...and very unlikely to renegotiated.
One upmanship comes with a price...

I understand that it may be upsetting for you but we are not here to post about you and your denigrating opinions or to keep you happy, Seattle.
I gave you some friendly advice, take it or leave it.

    The topic is One-up-manship...ok?

if you want to know you ask a question

however, asking a question on the internet that is posturing to seek to invalidate someones opinion based on other attributes is more like a veiled personal attack(or trolling).
    some people are like that
they cant help themselves, they are good people on the whole but have a tendency to hurt others around them in small ways.
    thats life.
but its not the game here.
what you think i might not notice, maybe i notice, maybe i care, maybe i dont.

discussing opinions and how they are formed is vastly different from seeking to undermine someone by asserting they are lacking in personal value.

what ever happened about 3 days ago is your personal business
to me it was clearly a thing, you showed that in how you posted on here.

it looks like you were looking for something to push against
    thats not un normal
everyone needs a rant now and again

but if your going to turn it into personal slights, then dont be surprised when people do the same back to you.
the holier than thou defense routine after you make personal slights doesn't wash.

getting annoyed at others because they don't follow your rules is a downward spiral.
decided not to comply with your demands for personal information ?

    hhmmm...

You sure are focused on topics aren't you? I think most topics are realistically done by the 10th post aren't they. This is post 91. How much more is there to talk about on "one-up-manship"?

One up manship is all that is going on after the 10th post or so. My "denigrating" opinions? You are a barrel of laughs QQ.

I'll be glad for you to have all the rest of the posts in this thread if that is what floats your boat.

Narcissism, vanity, false pride are big subjects. If taken with a modicom of seriousness this thread could go for hundreds of pages.

    one-upminship Vs superiority complex
Vs the need to always hold some form of control over others...

    the subject is quite vast.

intellectual Rivalry as a process of self validation
    Ego/Self esteem
    lack of self worth
power & authority corruption to normalise power imbalance to assert self control...
    psychopathy with borderline sociopothy
    sociopathic social disassociation bias

generically speaking indoctrinated patriarchal bigotry is the most common which is anti-intellectualism guised inside a self-righteous pretense of individuality as a premise to social dogma/culture

or it could be a form of healthy competitiveness.
    For example:
Envy is often seen as a negative yet envy can be most productive.

some of the 2000 year old intellectual literature i have read says the fundamental principal of human nature best performs when combined as a process of equal competition.

    i agree

    envy is a funny thing
more soo when it is sold by the 3rd person as a means to manipulate others to monetize their addictive nature.

some of the most successful sales people i have personally met hold quite a bit of envy of material things.
    it drives them.
ironically the manipulation of that as a process to share that envy is a process for making billions in self help seminars.

one-upping the competition is the way to make millions
    and who doesn't want millions

however... notice the sudden game changer when i add a single word to envy
    "sexual envy"
    ...
how so has the word suddenly lost or gained power or factual association to the self of the reader ... ?

    humans are soo weird

You deal insults about me in threads where I haven't even been posting. Hello?
What they can "see" is all important to them - it's a feature of their reality, not blinkered perspective. Compare Schmelzer.
As far as you have posted here you can't paraphrase my posts, identify my rhetoric and commentary by continent or ideological viewpoint, make accurate observations about what I've posted here, or make two consecutive replies to my posting without an attempt at irrelevant personal insult.
As far as you can "tell"?
Take a few minutes, review the posting you have spewed my way for months.
That recent screwy set of posts pivoting on what country I live in? It doesn't really stick out - it's more or less typical. The central error of assumption you shared with others was a bit more flagrant than average, and it caught me by surprise - hence the bemusement, the Bandar-Log reference you don't seem to have been amused by despite your superior sense of humor - but the followup series of attempts at basing insult and personal attack on a falsehood were same old same old.
Again the person, not the posting; the motivation, not the meaning.
Make a compendium, a table, two lists, of your posts to me and mine to you - ten consecutive, dated in sequence, any thread you choose. Set them side by side.
Anyone actually bothering to think about your latest claim of "disrespect" could well be thinking about that comparison.

They may even take your posted criterion for respect generally, consider that you trying to be likable in my view - trying to be someone I would want to talk to - is the measure of your respect as well, almost as if we were of equivalent status as posters. Ridiculous, of course - you are the real American, I am maladjusted, possibly foreign - but they might.
