In what way(s) do you see these as being the same thing?

if you apply skepticism logically, then it acts as scientific rigor.
meanwhile the emotions such as "faith" oppose skepticism because it does not agree to the dictatorship.

you may be using the wrong word.

My mistake, I meant that they are opposites.
"Whether you think your right (belief), or if you think your wrong (skeptical) your correct."

Your biggest mistake is to commence religiously inspired ranting in a science thread.

I'll have to read the last replies...to see if anyone answered me original question. You guys ...arguing with k. He has a totally different mindset than you.

That's true. Most people speak in terms of "right" and "wrong" both being either beliefs (for a subjective subject) or facts otherwise.

Kx000 speaks in terms of belief or skeptical? Or if you are "wrong" you are "skeptical".

When one person is making up definitions for common words it's hard for anyone else to join in that discussion in any meaningful way.

Just curious, kx - what do you mean by this statement? How can they both be shams?

I'm interested in his thinking as well but I think he is saying that if one is skeptical, you don't know that something isn't true but you have doubts.
Faith means you don't know either and have to just take in on faith.

I think he is implying each side doesn't know but thinks that it does.

The problem with this logic, of course, is that there is a big difference between saying "I don't know" (skepticism) and "I do know" (faith).

My bad I meant they are opposites.

    Ah, gotcha. That makes sense.

Although Seattle's interpretation made sense, too.

Whether you believe, or whether you are skeptical you are correct. While I believe in heaven you must be skeptical to hell, both being good things. If I believed in hell you were skeptical to heaven, both bad things. You must have the trust, you must know that one is trusted.

This thread is not about heaven or hell. It is about Dark Matter. Can we stay on-topic please?

    Could be, could be.
But not in the Astro/Cosmo/Exo forum.

    Yea, you tell 'em, Dave!

    So, I have two questions...

Why doesn't dark matter interact with electromagnetic radiation, like ''normal'' matter does? What is the difference between dark energy and dark matter?

We don't know. We don't know what it is yet.

But we have direct observable evidence of its existence, so it can't be written off as some sort of error. It's real.

Both are placeholders, but for very different things.

Dark matter is a placeholder for something we see interacting with matter gravitationally. Something that is massive but otherwise invisible is a good placeholder.

Dark energy is a placeholder for something that is causing the expansion of the universe at accelerate (despite gravity trying to shrink it). Some form of energy that we don't understand yet is a good placeholder.

That's good definition Dave but you left out the part about Dark Matter being heaven as well.
