OK James - what the hell is your actual reason for splitting two posts of mine, clearly both on the same topic and directed to the same individual - between two threads!!!???
In case you need a refresher, I am of course referring to these two:

    http://www.sciforums.com/posts/3587735/
now p6 #114 under 'Is free will possible in a deterministic universe?'

    http://www.sciforums.com/posts/3587745/
now p42 #824 under 'Co-Determinism and the Reality of Free Will'

I can only imagine the behind the scenes lobbying that went on there. Did you think I would not notice and then not protest?

    Q-reeus:

Well, I thought long and hard about it, while I was moving several hundred other posts across to a different thread so as not to clutter QQ's one up with irrelevancies. I strained my brain thinking about how best to annoy you, and I decided that the best way would be to leave a one-liner post of yours in the original thread, while moving the related posts from earlier to the new thread.

And so it was done. And I looked upon my works and laughed! Oh, how I laughed!

Thank you. I have now moved the second post into the first thread, because it links to another post that is also in that thread. Of course, if it meant so much to you, you could have just requested that I do that in the first place, instead of throwing a tantrum. Anyway, the job got done in the end, and that's what matters, eh?

Well, I consulted widely before setting out to annoy you. In fact, for each one of the hundreds of posts I moved to the new thread, we had a round-table conference of the Secret Moderator Cabal, to discuss how we might best go about upsetting each individual poster. In your case, we decided that an inconsequential-seeming oversight would probably be enough to trigger a complete meltdown, so we went with that.

Would it surprise you to learn that I hardly thought about it at all?

As for the outraged protest from you, that doesn't especially surprise me. You seem somewhat prone to unreasonable bouts of anger, prompted by imagined slights.

Guess so. Thing is, you were still online when placed this thread. Some 3+ days ago. But why sulk over such trivialities as taking that long to fix it, eh?
(You have edited your original posting - I respond above to the mysteriously reactivated email alert version.) We are personal foes. And you know I could supply links to posts illustrating that quite well. Add to that the mysterious cut-off of email alerts, happening now and then.
But so what - observing and being annoyed by that just illustrates my paranoid disposition, eh?
    Have a nice day.

    Q-reeus:

The first time I saw this thread was about 5 minutes before I first posted in it.

Oh, I see. You think I've been wallowing in a sulk over the past weekend, worrying about how to respond to your little tantrum, or something like that, do you? I'm afraid you're mistaken, again.

I edited my initial posting because I thought you might take what I originally wrote the wrong way, as is your default orientation. Now, it seems, I'll have to explain it, which is not something I really wanted to spend time on (another reason for editing it).

It seems me to that you imagine that I pay you special attention, or that I think your complaints are particularly pointed or cutting or relevant, or something. You regularly mistake the courtesies that I give to you as a sign of giving in to you, or as a tacit nod on my part to your superior knowledge or whatever. Because it is all a battle to you, somebody must always come out on top in your world. I thought I might try to offer you a little perspective, by gently pointing out that only a small portion of my attention is devoted to interacting with you and your concerns. But then I reconsidered, on the assumption that you would think it an attempt to belittle you. So, I edited the post, you saw the original, and here we are, where we are.

Are we? Do you hate me, Q-reeus? How deep does that go for you? I'd be interested to know how you got to that point, too. It hasn't taken much, apparently.

You're not the first person on the forum who I have rubbed up the wrong way, and I'm sure you won't be the last. I am always a little surprised when I see such strong emotion coming out of what are mostly trivial disagreements, though. Human nature is a funny thing. And some people have fragile egos. I'm sorry if I've hurt yours at some point. Well, no, to tell the truth I'm probably not that sorry about that. Maybe you needed a recalibration.

Oh, that will be because I spend a lot of my spare time messing with your email notification settings. Because, you know, in between messing with your posts to annoy you, that's just one more way I can take out my raging anger at you behind your back. I'm a petty, vindictive guy, I guess. Who knows to what lengths I'll go to try to mess with your head? I'm about as evil as Hitler. (Oops, sorry Godwin.)

Making up some kind of conspiracy about people messing with your email settings illustrates your paranoid disposition, to my mind. And the existence of this entire thread goes a fair way to confirming that, if you ask me.

Thanks so much, Q-reeus. Always a pleasure dealing with your concerns.

Well a flood of email notifications have come in. Nice. So, case closed as far as I'm concerned.

Amazing, since I haven't touched a single setting on your profile. Something must be wrong. I'll see if I can turn them off again. Let me know if that happens.

Here's something more useful for all members to know. How is email notification set up exactly? Assuming, as has always been the case for me, all 13 boxes are ticked for
'Receive an alert when someone...' under 'Alert Notifications'.

In my case, a single following alert is all I get, unless I log in to somehow 'refresh' notifications in relevant threads. Which has to be repeated ad nauseum. Is that how it's supposed to work at SF?

Do you rely on your email notifications, Q? I just log in here to see if there are any notifications at the top of the page. But, if your email address is linked to being notified whenever someone replies to you, etc then it should work.

The only way I know email alerts have been stopped is by logging in and checking there wegs. As you say, with all boxes ticked, it should work. Always did at another forum - even when hierarchy clearly had me in their sites. But this is SF, and here hierarchy, as illustrated this very thread, are a law unto themselves.
As all boxes were ticked from very early on at SF, I should get alerts not just when someone replies to me, but for every new post in an automatically subscribed to thread. That's the very first box - Alerts to a watched thread.
Go figure. Someone has been screwing me around from way back. But obviously will never admit to it. Cheers.

That's the first fav word here at SF used to ridicule - combined with 'theory'. The unspoken inference being conspiracies don't exist so anyone 'theorizing' such must be a nutter. But I would suggest bloody minded orneriness is a better description of what has and continues to transpire re issues here. But you know - my paranoid delusions and all that.

Like when one party dies of old age or just leaves in disgust? Yeah, i can see that as a means to sort things out. Enjoy your day wegs.
As for me, well Gene Pitney's piece here currently gives me inspiration and grit:

At least your taste in music is OK.One of the greats...but it in no way justifies or adds any credibility to your idiotic delusions and conspiracy crap!

    Ignoring the trailing drivel....
We agree on something. Shocking. While Pitney is indeed a great, Scott Walker as lead singer in the first incarnation of Walker Brothers is imo head and shoulders ahead of anyone else in any era. But I'm mostly into 80's synth-pop. Here's a nice YT version of OMD's Apollo 11, with some nice visuals and fitting for this 50th anniversary time period right now:

Patriotic/nostalgic Americans will be moved to put hand to heart and find the nearest stars and stripes flag to salute.

Not bad for that genre - from an Aussie doing his best to sound like an American country-pop-balad singer. At least it hails from that era, unlike OMD's racier take.

    There's that paranoia again.

People have better things to do than to screw with your notification settings, Q-reeus.

If you're comparing across forums, bear in mind that different forums use different software.

Personally, I don't use email notifications, so I have no first-hand experience of how they work. I've never altered anybody's notification settings here - not in 15+ years. But you don't have to believe that. Believe in your Grand Conspiracy instead, if it makes you happy.

Recall I asked in #8 how it actually is supposed to work, given all but in particular first box is ticked. Mind dealing with that now? Surely you do know, or can consult with someone who does and relay it here.

The XenForo documentation is surely online. Why don't you do us all a favour, look it up, and let us know how it's supposed to work?

    Thanks.
