So it seems that human and animal behaviors are most likely always conscious but at the same time either intelligent or instinctual.

Any animal that can dream can do this. That is why I believe dogs are conscious, they have dreams.

However I am not certain dogs are conscious nor am I certain other humans, even my friends, are conscious. I may very well be the only conscious being in the universe.

I think all animals are conscious. I don't think most animals understand the concept of tomorrow.

I don't think that consciousness and intelligence are linked/connected. Consciousness is mere awareness. You can be aware of your surroundings, but not very intelligent.

    Is it?

Is a bacteria aware of its surroundings? (Yes.)
    Is it conscious?

No, but they're responsive. So there are similarities to conscious behaviors, but I'd not consider them conscious. But, maybe someday.

Are you thinking of Trump, too?

He claims to be a genius (super smart). What do you think?

If you have to tell people that you're super smart, you're likely not. He's not stupid, but definitely not a genius. lol

His high opinion of himself, is he over compensating, do you think?

I think he does it to stir the pot, a form of self-promotion. Obama was an eight-year-yawn.

Barely. They are capable of quorum sensing and responding to external stimuli.
    Proto-conscious?

Well at least the alive ones
They have more than a pure reaction response to external stimulate

Is a bacteria aware of its surroundings? (Yes.)
    No
    Is it conscious?
    No
Only has reactionary response, has no idea of surroundings
    Proto-conscious?

    Not even close

What would you call quorum sensing? The hive-mind which is greater than the sum of its parts.
What about the single celled slime-mold? Have you seen what they can do without a brain?
It's really astounding. All without a brain, but the entire body is sentient (sensitive to stimulation).

And here is the source of any intelligent processing.

And the new direction of research into quantum biology. Good stuff!

    Bog standard built in reaction
Like a landslide, conditions suitable soil will remain in place
Conditions changed, lots of land, wait for it, slides
Not a sensitive quantum in sight

Just like the land in the aforementioned slide

Cousins in earthquakes and distant relatives volcanic ash much the same same

Right, landslides are not biological organisms reacting to external information. They merely react to external force. That's not sensing and acting on sensory information.
No, you are not talking about biological systems where information is used to the benefit of the organism. You are citing purely physical conditions affecting everything in that environment.

That's not "sensing", which involves sensory processing. Quorum sensing is a reactive process of intra-species and inter-species communication between living species, not an inert object subject to a random external force.

Rolling down a hill is not quorum sensing by the rock, that's gravity.

OTOH, a slime-mold searching for food is a motivated action which involves sensing and finding the most efficient way to establish a feeding network. Sometimes they even climb uphill.......
