It can, but it also brings with it, responsibility. The more you know...the less you can claim ignorance. But, once you become informed, you don't want to turn back to ignorance. Learning gives you potential. (my opinion)

i have learned a great many things the hard way.
it is hard to not be regretful for the lost opportunities had i known better & made well informed decisions at the time. but such is life.
    though i am grateful
and seek to remind myself daily how lucky i am and in so, lucky to be where i am, in a position to be thankful and seeking mindfulness in that.

My sculpting mentor used to call me: "A victim of too much education".

    Yes, and no

After a year or so of factory work and odd jobs while stashing cash for my next run at university, a friend handed me a rubik's cube, I solved that sucker in less than a minute. After 2 years at university, I could not solve that sucker.

learning seems to regiment the mind
depending on the sort of learning it regiments the mind differently
so-------better at one thing, and worse at another(one cannot travel 2 paths at the same time)
    (just from personal experience)

We learn everyday. ''Education'' isn't restricted to a classroom setting. We learn from each other. We learn when we experience terrible things. We learn when we experience amazing thing. We learn on a continuum, not within a vacuum.

And I've met some very wise people in my life, who weren't ''educated,'' by society's standards. And vice versa.

one of my hardest lessons was while in an abusive relationship, with an alcoholic partner who was going through childhood trauma
we were best friends, but because of their childhood trauma our relationship was imploding through their violence and alcoholism which was used to try and cope with the pain of them suddenly losing a parent on top of all the unresolved childhood trauma/abuse/physical & psychological.
having to walk away from someone whom is your best friend & you love because it is the only way to prevent a probably fatal situation is a lesson that colors your soul.

sometimes the whirlpool of reality is just a eddy of a single thought

I've known some very toxic people too, and what you learn from such experiences, you'll never forget. I'm sorry you've had a tough time, Rainbow.

Sometimes, I wonder if I've learned more from tough situations in life, as opposed to easy times when everything seemed perfect.

holding regret or any negative feeling or emotion simply poisons ones own soul.
i appreciate your kindness, do not feel sorry for me. i am lucky to have had the experience.

Those that have experienced dysfunctional homes , and abuse , in many ways , I hope the wisdom gained from the experience , is to be a better person , therefore not to be so ; not to be bitter because of it , is an attitude we need .

So that our childeren grow up in better attitude towards themselves . And as a consequence towards ourselves .

We can grow out of dysfunctional and abusive family situations if we chose to do so .

    i completely agree.
    however...
there is a great many things society, aka the government can do to help mitigate and reduce the on-flow consequential compounding damage that can act as a catalyst towards processes and groups that accelerate and abide behaviors and models that frame such concepts.

the tired old rhetoric of getting tough on crime and violence(Law & Order) is just an excuse to dog-whistle conservative collective dogma that declares the government should not be acting in a positive affirmative manner toward better processes and systems that dictate and lead social compliance and behaviour models.

the classic situation is denying adequate food and education to children so they grow up with poor mental function and limited social culture systems compounded by small narrow scope emotional paradigms.

In certain respects, yes. Learning allows you to understand the world around you better. Knowledge is power, in that knowing how things work increases your ability to work the system, whatever the system happens to be.

In other respects, no. Factors beyond your control can limit your freedom to act as you would like, regardless of how much learning you might have.

But what if you forget what you know? Does forgetting free space for new information?
