Both groups had the right to free speech.

the school students do not have a right to free speech.
they are representing the school under school contractual agreement.
what the school students say is governed by the agreement with the school.
that is written out in contract and signed by parents.

what was the speech that the school students were making to the indigenous people rally members ?

maybe you are confused with the right of assembly ?
    which they broke.
no more than 2 people or 3 people depending on the state and above that needs a permit in public places.

they had broken away from the permitted anti abortion march and were creating a public disturbance around a permitted indigiounes peoples rally which goes against civil laws and state laws and the school contract.

the Catholics that i have met would not act in such a disrespectful way toward a peaceful situation and elders.

2 questions remain important in my opinion.
1 who was the teacher and where were they(why was the teachers & parent guardians not managing these children in accordance with civil, state and school regulations?[& church])
2 who was responsible for politicizing these children into a political theme ? this is against the church and the school and possibly against civil & state laws without parental consent.

They're not making sausages any longer.

They're long enough as it is.

What planet are you from? That's not how free speech works, that's not how our Constitution works.

Maybe you should show us that contract. Your take on it doesn't seem plausible.

the constitution doesn't apply to children.

why dont you know that ?

    in alienable rights are propaganda

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_speech_(First_Amendment)

it was a school sponsored event

    https://www.loc.gov/law/help/peaceful-assembly/us.php
while being sponsored by the school at a school run extra curricular event they have willingly broken the civil law to infringe on the 1st amendment rights of a lawful permit holder.

they have no right to impede the free speech of the legal permit holder
and while they are impeding the 1st amendment rights they are doing so while in an illegal act or illegal assembly.

wearing political slogans at school events...

do the children have a 2nd amendment right to bare arms ?

Because it's not true? And it is not possible for a citizen to "infringe on 1st amendment rights". It only applies to government restrictions on free speech.

And yes, children have a 2nd amendment right to bear arms. They are subject to the same restrictions as adults, who also can't carry a weapon onto school grounds. And there are age restrictions for purchase and ownership.

    govt issues licenses ?
    govt makes age a discrimination
govt prevents child from 2nd amendment right...

patriot act suspends constitutional rights ?
illegal assembly act suspends constitutional rights ? (to free speech in a public place or private place)

    ... ?

was the school event promoting school values ?
    or
was it a public event not representing school values ?
were the school students acting as school representatives ?

as a school trip requires parental consent and during which the students are viewed as being in school regulations to their school code of conduct(contractual terms and conditions they either accept or decline in free will) are the school students allowed to wear political slogans ?

and ... do they have a right to assemble in public without a permit ?

Obviously you aren't from around here.

There are legitimate concerns about the kids' behavior from a moral perspective, but no one is suggesting they broke a law.

    Well, the facts, for one.

They were not acting like thugs.
They were not "standing over" anyone.
    They were not intimidating anyone.
And being white is not illegal, last I checked.

Before responding, read the latest updates on this event. It appears you only read the accounts from the first 24 hours, before the larger picture hit the news.
A lot of the nation (those who react viscerally) were duped by those first manipulative and error-ridden accounts.

Spoiler: The kids didn't approach Philips; Philips approached them, in an attempt to intervene in a larger incident.

rampaging pubescent white teenage boys pretending to protest against abortion, acting like thugs mocking & attempting to intimidate people
while telling adult women what they can and cant do with their own bodys and what being pregnant is all about ?

    ...

who gave them the hats ?
who allowed them to wear the hats ?
who allowed them to go off coarse and then intimidate members of the public while on a school trip ?

why didnt the teachers & registered parent guardian assistants stop what was clearly going on ?

what message does this send to other school children who go on school trips ?

what message does this send to church groups ?

teenage boys politicizing pissing competitions with members of the public on school time while preaching about womens reproduction rights...

this is clearly bully culture in process and it has been sanctioned by the parents and teachers who were in control of the group.

Not by much. The longer videos do not absolve them of vile behavior.
    Just not illegal.

The incident was triggered by the Hebrew Israelites who had been verbally assaulting passersby - including the boys - for over an hour.
The boys had had enough, and began to flank the Israelites.
That's when Philips intervened. Philips stepped in the way of the boys who were about to confront the Israelites.
In fact, it was Philips who was "standing over the boys", not the other way around.

The hats did not participate in the altercation at all.
It had nothing to do with that - except in the eyes of the manipulative reporting, who saw a chance to change the context of the incident to make some Trump supporters look bad in a photo-bite.
