Since things get copied first and for first-hand: the next thing to do is source-string the raw data to the next destination with a plausible within reach comma like separation like e.g. If there were a copy of a file the file would start at center point the desktop be copied to the outside radius, the new radius point and come back and forth continually until finally 0 copied making its final copied destination into the driving force like a sector or radius Server without initial parameters as if to lock certain attributes like with an object(Human) skin color: like a class of red, or a boot into something beyond the sector where it won't copy its extrema and the file's particles the objects (like words and information) get uncompiled and leaves a mark or scar on the sector and then back to the file no new remarks leaving consciousness like in an object : a human, making possibly a class of bodies instead of actual human bodies alternatively copied instead of originally red like with a spectrum of color or actual bold color of red.

If it is it is a poorly designed bot. That ain't very close to simulating human conversation.
Maybe the bot was just designed to make the longest sentence possible at the expense of making sense?

"Is it or isn't it? Only its hairdresser knows for sure." (Apologies to Shirley Polykoff.)

Joined in 2007, so quite a relic if a poor performance indicates no upgraded versions since then. There's one thread over a month ago where a member seemingly got banned after "posting nonsense" in a reply to the bot candidate. Whereas in terms of immediate appearances, the latter seemed to have gone blissfully unscathed by the overseers. (#67)

Currently up to 221 posts and still humming. Somebody's chatbot experiment that was eventually abandoned but still receives automated protection? Or is there a legacy clause in the mod contract, in bold print, that reads: "Leave _X_'s pet software project alone!"?

Into the machine not onto , I think you mean't to say .

Here's the thing , would you ever experience or know , feel that you were ACUALLY in computer ?

I think so , the transition from biological self , to robotic will be quite obvious . Although I don't like the idea , its hard to argue against it .

Just maybe , a sort of , round about way , of proving the existence of a soul . Or not .

Why not try hacking an "artificial intelligence?" If we try every possible combination of code, we may discover that artificial intelligence cannot be formed, and that such a theory will remain forever. ☺

I gave up on the robot idea my old thread wont work.

Because of the brain gut biology. We have to have many of our same organs and such. So it defeats the whole idea of being put into a robot. Cyborgization, not robotization, is the answer.

    It's easy to argue against.

After "downloading" yourself into the computer, are you still alive in your body? Yes? Then you are not in the computer.

Let's be honest this is a silly fantasy thread that is even more ridiculous than my "Putting me as a robot thread." Consciousness cannot be downloaded into a computer. My thread was about putting my brain into a robot body. But even that is complex and would require also to transport the organs. Sort of like General Grevious.

Transporting consciousness of is of the order of several orders of magnitude higher in difficulty. We couldn't even make a worm brain simulate properly yet we plan to put someone's soul inside a computer, its just silly talk.

What is more feasible is some sort of "extended mind". Where your mind is plugged into a computer. And that your consciousness is expanded to be both in the computer and in your mind. By connecting neural circuits somehow to the computer network.

Ah. So if you kill yourself the instant that the download is complete, it really IS you in the computer?

I would have to say - no.

An exact replica of a Picasso is still not an actual Picasso. Even if you destroy the original.

    Hmm.

Are you still you? After all, you have almost none of the material you had in your body from ten years ago. It's all been excreted and replaced - so you are closer to the replica of the Picasso than the original.

We are all a work in progress. But the OP asks if we could load our consciousness into a computer everyday up to the moment we die. Then load that into a robot. This is suggesting that your consciousness exists in two places at one time. So, in theory, you could load it into a robot while you are still alive. Which one is you? If the robot is not you while you are alive, it's also not you after you die. (Ironically, the robot thinks it is you... but you know better.)

Exactly. The myth that we are a continuous being, from beginning to end one unchanging consciousness, is just that.
Or let's ask a simpler question.

Let's say we master quantum teleportation, and through an accident, you make two perfect copies of yourself at the other end. Which one is you?

    Ummmm

I would look at this like a relay race

Who ever is holding the baton (uploaded memory) is you

And you, for the period of holding the baton, are the only you in the race

Problem is - there might be more than one baton.

No. We may be essentially consciousness but consciousness as such is a blank page. It doesn't register any information. All the information that relates to you as a human being, as a person, is registered in your body. Download consciousness and you'll lose all the information about yourself, about the person you're supposed to be. So, the computer would get a brand new consciousness for itself. The computer will no more be yourself for having a record of your mind's data than two computers with the same data would be the same computer, or a photocopy be the same thing a the original.
