Yes, that why I call it the enhanced Yarkovsky effect. It is not just re-radiated solar energy, but ejecting particles because of it, It has even been called a kind of "comet" because of it. Even the slight irregularities of Halley's have been attributed to the effects of radiation during rotation. Oumuamua is a prolific rotator, tumbling in all three axes.
My speculation is that gravity acts in a slightly different way in the plane of the ecliptic then above and below it, where the visitor is heading, although the solar system is not a full disk like a spiral galaxy.

If this interstellar traveler had arrived in line with the ecliptic, and passed the Sun and planets, at the right distance, it could have been captured and joined the asteroid or TNO family, because it had already the right, typical, average speed and rotation, and be now classified as the most elongated solar system comet / asteroid.

what about a liquid metal spinning core ?
would that work ? assuming we were several decades ahead with technology etc...
electromagnets slowly building up the spin and then keeping it spinning by applying more force etc.
i gues we do not have the materials to form a structure strong enough to hold it or its required capacity as yet ?

I've seen speculation that Jupiter's core could be a liquid mass. Most powerful EM field in the area.

With all these gravity and magnetic fields in the ecliptic, it is pity, Oumuamua did not approach at a shallower angle, it would have fitted right in with the other, but as the most elongated of the asteroid/comets and become the quick target to drop rovers on.

On another forum somebody remarked, that if it is a probe, it was well aimed, searching or monitoring ( if they already know that we we here) between Venus and Earth, in the habitable zone for organic life. and
it is well camouflaged, looking a lot like one of us, having for example the same (Vo:Vr)xRadius ratio as Ceres, or the average solar system asteroid separation.

If it is an alien probe and it was launched very close to our solar system, say only 10 light years away, then that means it was launched about 34,000 years ago. So that makes no sense and I think we can safely flush the probe idea.

The worst light sail ever made. Must have been launched by highly technical morons.

With all the stupid speculation about oumuamua, this is the time to read Rendezvous with Rama if you have never read it.

you are so right it would work by the Yarkovsky effect, but only near a radiant source and there are no external energy sources during those 34 000 years. in darkness. May be they harnessed dark energy ha ha.
May be they folded their huge stellar sail like a gannet in a dive. May be it was a probe dropped down from an orbiter like we did just recently with the asteroids.
    Thanks for the reading recommendation.

While we are having fun with this. If you observed our probes like Hubble, they are all outgassing for positioning their sensors, re=entry shields the were called vernier rockets. Kepler, of exo planet fame, just ran out fuel for them. so,
Oumuamua's flatulence was perhaps not cometary, but directional, stabilizing activity.

Thank you, I ordered it at the library, If it is fiction. no wonder I have not read it. I do not read fiction . I might write it. (unintentionally) but like to stick with reading facts, like astro data.

Had not had the pleasure of this book, e-book'ed it and i say 'thank you' intresting ... dont post any spoilers im still in the first chapters.

As to the "ALIEN ASTROID!" im think its kinda funny that just becource u CAN speculate it is a really strange solution for any advanced race to send a 30k traveltime probe....
i find it kinda funny, that just becorce the speculation is 'sound' about it, that its feelt relevant to an institution such as harvard. good Lols, like a Trump-sicence-version.
I know that the Theory is sound, but so is alot of Theory... donsnt mean its relevant or even close to being any were close to time worth investment of brain power.

I am going to go out on a limb, and conflate this topic with the "revolving dark matter halo" thread.
If you compare the Oumuamua's near normal passage through the ecliptic, and the needed elliptical orbits of DM Halo "particles", one can see that these closely match. so:
Nebel's analogy, The dark obelisk is a fellow traveller of Dark Halo Matter, kind of sampling it as it tumbles through it at nearly matching average speeds.*
*Conflating some more: In the "cancelling velocity" theme, Oumuamua's orbit rotation speed ratio is that of an ordinary asteroid.

There is now a paper out by a Harvard team, that the visitor possibly was of intelligent alien origin. If it was, it certainly was well aimed, going near the habitable zone, and well camouflaged. If it was aimed, it looks more like "shot a across the bow". Our planet is No. 1, is prime real estate, and showing signs of being ruined by it's inhabitants. If aliens ever came to take over, as we are fond to do with new territory, they no doubt do not want to inhered a burned out dump.
If they are showing us the middle finger with that fitting dimension, where they also feeling what goes on here?. how far the prostate anomaly has progressed?
    Occam suggests, just space debris.

Rama is a speculative novel about how a race might go about colonization. There are no slobbering monsters.

    Or are there?
