<--- thinking of mounting a muzzle brake on my 300 win mag.
She kicks like a mule at @25 ft.lbs. Brakes could lower that 30-55%
Downside: the brakes that lower the felt recoil the most are also the best at redirecting the sound of the blast back at the shooter.
Some brakes direct the blast more sideways and leave the shooter without much increase in volume, but they have the least reduction of the recoil.

I'm currently leaning toward the latter.

    Your thoughts?

i dont know anything about guns(so i googled) but this looks pretty
(sudden thought a laser mapping thingey that can computer model the sound waves might be useful)

    yeh pretty
that is a clamp on model---has good recoil reduction---
I'm a tad reluctant to trust something clamped on to the end of the barrel with so much force flowing through it.

i remember watching a myth busters episode where they said something about the barrel expanding as the thingey goes down it or something.
is there any risk of the clamp on exploding as opposed to a screw on splitting etc ? is that a thing ?
cant remeber which episode as ive watched almost all of them and not in chronalogical order so they all kinda moosh together lol

    "opinions vary"
many have said that they have clamped on this device and had no problems
others swear that threaded on is far safer
the 2 local gunsmiths I have queried are for the threaded on brakes---but that is how they make their money
the clamp on you liked requires that the buyer submit accurate measurements of the barrel's outside diameter ---I do not have a micrometer that measures in .01 inches. (my stuff is for woodworkers--we do not need .05 inches---the saws ain't that precise)
So. I'll default to the desires and training of the gunsmiths.(for now)

Put the muzzle brake on it if the recoil bothers you. Wear ear plugs. The blast must come back towards you or the break will not work. I would, and have, had it cut in by a gun smith. It really reduces kick on my .375 H&H, which is similar in recoil.

I also have breaks cut in the barrels of my 45 automatic speed guns. They do not kick and hardly raise when fired.
