Just as you found DrT remark insulting I find talk of wife beating offensive.

This casual resort to this line of arguement is in my view wrong.

Moreover it is such a tired approach we can find good reason not to employ such a tiresome tactic.

It wasn't tied to a specific creed, and it stands as a common reference to a type of fallacy in argument.

If there was some online history of you having a specific history with domestic violence, then perhaps you may have some grounds for establishing extraneous grounds for insult.

To be fair though, a certain amount of identity politics and character assassination is the standard fare for online discussions. The only thing that requires attention is whether sexual allegations against minors contravenes any standard admins wish to maintain.

I think there is no need to use such a tactic and reference domestic violence as for me its use somehow detracts from a terrible problem we know to exist.

I dont think there can be a worse insult.

But it is interesting what can be insulting to some folk...certain sayings offend at different levels.

I recall a chap I helped out who had been to prison would lose it if called a "dirt bag" which to me seems rather tame but for him there was nothing worse...he became uncontrolable ready to fight to the death...I could not believe it when someone said it ...and he was a quiet sorta chap..I think the prison guards caused him to be that way.

A drummer in a band I practiced with went in to uncontollable rage if you called him "two dogs" I have no idea why and certainly would not ask...I saw it happen on the other side of the room this drummer had dribble and near froathing at the mouth...and otherwise a decent sortta guy but I kept from talking to him after that...

Maybe we should start a thread in which the only allowed post is the punch line for a joke. You have to work backwards..

"And that's how the Cherokee give names to their children, Two Dogs Fucking."

Or, "Guys, You don't understand! Chunks is my dog!"

And not least, "And so, children, that's why there's an angel at the top of every Christmas tree."

Puns not allowed, sort of...

 

I have heard the two dogs joke but I cant imagine why it set the drummer off...maybe the joke had nothing to do with it...he was with a girl who sang in the band who I found out was earlier married to a mate and apparently they were brother and sister but never knew until sometime after they had married... both came from foster homes...imagine that...what a shock what a long shot...maybe I got it wrong but certainly would make a great movie...

I have not heard the other two jokes.

You know you have upset Jan could you not comment upon what upsets him and smooth things over.
