This seems to me as fundamental and significant as Kahneman amd Tarsky's noticing the influence of regression to the mean on human perception of success or failure. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/06/180628151752.htm The summary is a bit off - the original is less pop sci: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/360/6396/1465.full But that's paywalled. An abstract: http://www.bionity.com/en/publicati...induced-concept-change-in-human-judgment.html The most interesting features for me, of the original study, were that the pattern was verified in a non-visual setting of abstract reasoning (evaluation of ethics violations in research proposals), and that it persisted in the face of not only verbal warnings (participants were in one iteration told flat out that the prevalence of the entity of interest would be deliberately decreased over time) but actual cash payment to reward resistance and maintenance of consistent standards. People will be biased this way even if you pay them to be more careful, but it's a feature of thought, a mistake the brain makes and can hardly stop making. (Studies 2 through 5) To quote the original report:
/// Maybe I should clarify. Worthy may imply deserving or not deserving. Concerning something people have very little or no control over, deserve has nothing to do with it. <>
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/06/180628151752.htm i encounter this routinely as part of my job. i must fluidly apply this ability to allow no noticable distinction between peoples perception that change has occured or change has not occured. oddly enough i found myself acting organically in a positive functional manner that distinctly defied the basic premise of most peoples concepts of propper procedure. my action gave the best result produced the maximum level of productivity reduced increasing the problem but was superficially incongruent to the general behaviour patterns of group think. functionality as a human emotional being inside a model of process that delivers quantitative results designates a value that is transient to the emotional animal. (my current generalised opinion) this delivery and manipulation is a pure art form mostly attributed to a specialised ability like one may have a left-handedness or easy ability with mathamatical functions etc.
btw: In the OP, for "Tarski" read -> Tversky. Brain glitch. Apologies. And do read Tversky & Kahneman, if this field is of interest - well worth the effort. example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prospect_theory So there are three distorting factors combined there: 1) that it matters to all human beings how a given decision is "framed" - matters qualitatively, as in possibly changing "yes" to "no" in apparently identical situations 2) a large part of the reason for that is a fundamental feature of human decision processing, a property of human thought or cognition, describable as a bias toward avoiding loss rather than achieving gain 3) and another large part of the reason for that is another feature of human decision processing, describable as inaccurate intuitive estimation of large and small probabilities. A basic human cognitive tilt, requiring both great effort and an unusual ability to reason to combat. These tilts appear to operate somewhat as optical illusions do - one cannot learn to avoid them completely, any more than one can learn to not see optical illusions. One can learn to see through them, correct one's impressions in various ways, but that takes effort and ability and technique.
just musing. the herd effect inter tribal(group) dynamics formed by perceptional design differences to generate leadership preferance... etc Poison response genetic knowldedge random event cause & effect on dissasociation from emotional attachment to negative events to form survival/(darwinian) all the groups/tribes will do this all of the group/tribe will do this everyone thinks this mass extinction doesnt happen as a regular event intergroup control change is fluid with etherial differences. the expectation of large events only delivers a negative outcome for the group when actuated as the critical outcome is vastly more inter dependant on over all group function of maslow's hierarchy just a thought.
Someone in YouTube comments claimed that because we are ill equipped to comprehend reality, we have no choice but to trust god. <>
Ranked in order of comprehensibility, God would surely be last on any list. What's next - jumping into the ocean because we can't swim well enough to handle the kiddie pool?
