This may not be a "saying" in the annals, but it's certainly said often enough both in movies and in life:
    Everything will be all right.
    the even more dishonest version:
Everything will be all right - I promise.

Should that rather go in the "post a new word or phrase" thread?

    It is not new.
It is a stupid term. Unfair discrimination is simply unfair discrimination, regardless of who is on either end of it. It is useless to have a special name for it.

Maybe I should have said such in the original post.

I promise. I give you my word.

When someone tells me something, they are either telling the truth or mistaken or joking or lying. When they say either of the above, it does not help me to know they are telling the truth or will do what they say they will do & it does not increase my trust in them.

"To tell you the honest truth..."
...is probably followed by a lie.

    Is there a dishonest truth?

How about "Without a word of a lie"

Sure not a word, just several dozen

Yes, but that's an Irishism; what he's about to spin is not so much a lie as yarn; it's likely to be fanciful.
You've been forewarned: enjoy it; don't invest in it.

The pot calling the kettle black.

The vast majority of pots & many kettles are not black.

They were when people cooked over open fires and made up this saying. These days, people think of a tea-kettle, but what the saying most likely refers to is a deep cauldron sort of container for heating wash-water, very similar to the soup-pot - that being the point.

Argh, faith an beggorrah, but I've become an apologist for ancient maxims!
