    Yes, that one!
Whatever doesn't kill you outright kills you by slow degrees.

"There is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers."

Anyone who has brought up children, or subscribed to a discussion forum, knows how untrue that is.

Actually, anyone who has brought up children knows there is a grain of truth in that.
Facial expressions, especially grimaces, tend to become habitual and unconscious.

I also believe that a bird in the bush is worth two in the hand.
Plus, you have a hand free for scratching.

I actually like that one. But I'd like a third option.

Do you mean "A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush"?

    That's the stupid version.
What are you going to do with a bird in either hand? Can't put them down; can't use your hands for anything else.
Trust me, they're all three better off in the bush - so if you're holding even one, let it go.

That may be one of the most inspirational sayins.!!!
I suspect that sayin has inspired many people to harshly judge/look down on the less fortunate

Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
...so, I've got my knees tucked under my chin, my heels digging into my groin, bare feet and a boot dangling from each hand.
    Now what?
It's even harder if you're wearing old sneakers with furry, half-closing Velcro straps.

    "Beauty is only skin deep."
Then why shell out $thousands to have a facial bone reshaped?

And thousands for lippo suction sucking out the fat under the skin which nobody can see

If the amount of fat removed is a large amount that makes the skin wrinkled and less beautiful

Don't count your chickens before they hatch

Sort of makes sense but being pedantic should be

Don't count your eggs as chickens until they are so

In the same vein a friend used to play the stock market and often come to work boosting how much money he had made, or sad about how much lost

If fact since he had not sold his shares neither had happened

A fool and his money are soon parted

Question - is this trickle down foolishness?

The fool at the top (though I am unclear how you define the top fool) has to be given the money, (by a higher fool???) or how else does he/she get money to start with?

From this high point the money trickles out to other fools. Somewhat like champagne in a pyramid of glasses

Only stops when the money (champagne) runs out

Homework for anybody - Who puts (or how does) the money (champagne) get back to the top?
