So I purchased a bamboo transverse lute, but I can't figure out how to get the thing to work. I've watched videos and looked online for answers, yet I I still can't make it sing. So far I've taken the advice of puckering my lips as though I were spitting seeds and rolling the flute until it makes sound, but no...

Anyone know how to play one? Advise?

    I laughed.
Your spelling mistake caught me off guard and I had the impression of someone trying to play a lute like a flute.

    Aren't all flutes transverse?

If it weren't transverse, wouldn't that be ... a recorder?

I made one out of pvc pipe that is played from the end. Not certain what the technical name is. Forgot. It's much easier to play.

I did manage to get some sound out of the transverse flute. It seems that my fingers are not adequately covering the note holes. I'm still working on it and will eventually master it.

    My two cents:
Cent 1. With a flute you blow across the opening like blowing across the top of a bottle.
Cent 2. With a recorder, the mouthpiece helps to direct your air-flow across the opening.

I think it's called a fipple flute because of the way the air is channeled. I tried to upload a pic of my pvc version
