    ??? walk??? walk reqires legs???

I thought it was a trail of snails?

Oh I forgot photos are compelling evidence (even as in this case I don't see any legs)

LOL. It identifies a group of snails and has nothing to do with walking. Though I do believe that your identification is more in the spirit of the subject.
Just as a "murder" of Crows has nothing to do with sticking a knife into someone.

But Ravens have their own group name...

One of my favorite animals. It evolved from a mollusk and is the closest thing we can come to an intelligent alien lifeform on earth.

We have identified the following word(s) that you could call a group of snails:

    escargatoire
    hood
    rout
    walk

Personally I like escargatoire although it brings up the image of them singing in church

Seems that this exercise allows for free choice, poetic liberty, and jazz like improvisation.

Unfortunately a "leg of lamb" would not work too well....

We need a path for the snails
Said the insects drinking their ales
    But because being pissed
    And some instructions were missed
The escargatoire that they built was for whales
