Space is room so that physical things can manifest and therefore exist .

From the thread in Astronomy , Exobiology and Cosmology

The dimensions of height, depth, and width within which all things exist and move.

    What is space ?
must there be a thing 1st to allow for the thing to be when the thing is no-thing ?

I'm almost going to agree with that. Space is the fabric which wrinkles to make physical things.

Well.... photons - energy - compacts to make physical things.

The idea of space being a fabric has long been discouraged as a helpful analogy, beyond the basic level.

    then i think

I make no pretence to go beyond the basic level.

What would ever lead you to assume that?

    The title.

The fact that it's asked in a forum. We might assume the poster has not found the basic answers out there to be satisfactory, so he's asking for more.

[ EDIT ] nm. I just realized who the OP is. And the fact that no elucidating questions were asked in post #1. Thanks for drawing my attention to that.

That's way too logic for this forum, don't you think?

As you noticed, the originator is river, so I might have gone a bridge too far already.
