If there's a problem with the forum rules, the moderators will take care of that.

Just run along and read that Wikipedia article for a start. Then you'll have a basis for intelligent discussion.

No they won't. The mods are some of the worst offenders of the no adhom/no flaming rule.

I know how perception works. I've been successfully relying on it for a long time to survive on this planet as a healthy and happy man. And nothing you have said refutes that basic reliability and trustworthiness.

    False.

The fact that you can use it in no way indicates you know how it works.

The fact that you have repeatedly made assertions that are entirely wrong strongly indicates that you do not know how it works.

Yeah.. see I study science all the time too. I bet you didn't know that did you? So yes, I do know how it works and that it works well when it isn't being tricked or inhibited.

Well then you might as well stop whining about it.

Don't kid yourself that I'm trying to convince you. The chair across from me is beginning to understand but it doesn't look like you ever will.

I'll ask again: Is the samurai boots typical of the best evidence that you have? Because it's really bad. It's much lamer than I would have expected.

You should probably stop doing it if you don't want to be ignored.

Yeah...the photo of boots of someone who wasn't there at the time. Along with the testimony of the father who took the photo. That's not the best evidence, but it's part of the overall overwhelming preponderance of evidence for the existence of the paranormal. You should study that sometime. It might give you a little more credibility to show that you at least know what you're talking about.

Part of the perception relies on persistence of vision

The image from one frame is still being processed when the next frame appears. The next frame has minor changes and as you stated the brain fills in the minute section between the minor change

Which, as I am sure you understand, older movies appear jerky due to the discrepancy between the older and newer frame projection rates, perception of vision fades before the next frame signals kick in

It's a shame that it appears, in this thread, stupid has such a fast frame rate that it crowds everything else out

    Boots = ghost
Blue fabric = not blue guard shirt sleeve and ignored
Hair = not even worth comment

Persistence of stupidity rolls (?trolls?) on

    Magical Realist:

You are required to do one of two things:

    1. You will present unambiuous evidence supporting your claim that the photo was taken near the samurai cemetery in Zushi, and not at the location indicated by sweetpea.

    or

    2. You will apologise to sweetpea for you accusation of telling lies, and you will unambiguously accept that the location indicated for the photograph is correct.

Either action must be clear from a post from you to this thread.
    ---

Our site posting guidelines, as published, prohibit the telling of knowing lies. As far as I can tell, by making false accusations of lying against sweetpea (and/or google Earth), you are, yourself, knowingly lying. This is unacceptable.

At this point, abundant evidence of the location where the photograph was taken has been presented to you, and you have not refuted that evidence. Instead, you make false accusations against people providing you with the information.

If I see that you have logged into the forum and you have not taken action on this, further moderation action will occur.

Bite me James R. No evidence was ever shown that that photo was obtained from Google earth. The photo is definitely modified with lots of his personal text and other pics and maps. As far as I know it could be his own photoshopped creation. So until that link is provided, the issue is settled. And the location of the photo in Zushi near the samurai graveyard was provided in the father's desscription already posted. That's the proof of its real location.,

No more proof is needed, but here's yet another photograph taken at the "scenic spot" indicated by sweetpea. Notice the distinctive rock immediately behind the people in the foreground of the photo. That rock also appears behind the girl in the "ghost photobomb" photograph, and in the photos posted by sweetpea. You can find this photo among the ones on Google Earth. There are several other photographs showing the same rock on Google Earth.

There is zero doubt that this was taken at the place indicated previously, near the Imperial Villa at Hayama.

Note that what has actually been established with the father's assertion (that the photo was taken in Zushi) is the fallibility of human memory and perception (again). Quite clearly, the father made a mistake, because the photo was taken in Hayama.

Also, if he couldn't even remember where the photo was taken, why would he remember, after the fact, whether a police officer happened to be standing behind his daughter in one of the photos he took?

Oh, and you asked why the daughter didn't react to the police officer. For starters, how the hell do you know she didn't react? You weren't there. All you have is that photo. And, secondly, why would she have a special reaction, when she no doubt was aware of his presence long before the photo was taken?

The answer to sideshowbob's question is obviously: no, Magical Realist didn't read the article on perception. This is also evidenced by MR's later assertion that he didn't need to read it, because he considers himself to be an expert on perception already. As the record shows, MR has studiously avoided all discussion of the fallibility of human perception, when the topic has come up in this thread, other than to assert repeatedly that it is infallible.

It's one thing to be unaware of the limitations of human perception and memory. That's quite forgivable. It is quite another to go out of your way to avoid learning anything about the subject, especially when the subject is directly relevant to what you're trying to talk about, and when your deficiency has been highlighted innumerable times by others.

Only three conclusions are possible, I think. One is that Magical Realist is a true idiot, who is incapable of learning. I don't believe that is the case. Another is that Magical Realist is a calculating troll, who is only here to try to aggravate people by playing the idiot. I'm on the fence on that one. The last possibility is that Magical Realist's sense of self, for whatever reason, is tied up so tightly with his identifying as a supporter/promoter of 'woo' that he will stoop to just about anything, whether consciously or unconsciously, to maintain the illusion of integrity of that sense of self. Ironically, MR claims that good evidence of ghosts or UFOs would so upset the 'worldview' of skeptics that they will go to any lengths to deny such evidence, while in reality MR's own worldview is so blinkered that perhaps he isn't even consciously aware of what he is going out of his way to ignore.

    Agreed.

I've been saying this for... at least three years now.

This option, truthfully, isn't much better than the second one... if someone is so utterly tunnel-visioned by their blind faith assertions that they refuse to even acknowledge contradicting evidence, much less give them any serious consideration, then what are they doing except trolling and/or proselytizing?

    Thank you JamesR.
I hope this link works... For me it works sometimes and then something stops it working?? Anyhow here's how to get to that scene

The link below will take you to the page on Google Earth ( my first arial map picture.) When there click on the blue tag near top ( that's the blue tag near that jetty thing). A picture will appear on the left, click on that top picture and a selection of pictures will appear below it. My rock pic is farther down the selection. I zoomed in to get a close up.

I suspect that he is trying to get the goat of the mods specifically - or more like see how far he can push it. He's made it abundantly clear that he thinks the mods do nothing - or rather do nothing except give him a hard time, since he's also had quite a few run-ins with them that did not go well for him. I think it gives him a sense of revenge to see how far he can troll without actually getting called out too often.

    1. It's a little suspicious that the mysterious hand is dressed the same as the other fellow.
    2. It would be fairly easy to photoshop with the hard edge of the cake.
