I thought it would be fun to start a thread asking members if the are a dog or cat person. If you like both or if you like other animals please share! Personally I like both dogs and cats. The first dog my parents and I had was a Labrador Retriever and Old English Sheepdog mix. Our second dog was a Golden Retriever. Unfortunately both of our dogs have died but we may be looking into getting a third dog sometime. We are unsure of the breed of dog we want to adopt so far.

When in the bush one dog one cat and two horses.
I have the potential to be one of those folk who have a zoo but living in two places prevents me doing so.
I really like all animals and would not mind getting a donkey (which keep wild dogs away) and a pet pig.
And there about 30 gold fish here and always more on the way☺

I like cats and dogs. I also have 2 horse which I like but are too damn expensive and take a lot of time. I am looking forward to them dying. Uh, that sounds kind of weird, now that I read it, but what I mean is I like the taking care of the horses but when they are gone life will be easier.
My daughter has some weasels (ferrets) and they are great pets. They run around the house like, well, crazed weasels, but they sleep like 20 hours a day. They have 2 speeds; c and 0.

I have never had a cat. Are they easy to take care of? Working with wolves must be cool!

I would love to have a lot of animals too if I had the time, money, and space. Good luck with getting a donkey, pig, and any other animals you would like to get.

I saw you are from London exchemist. Are cats more popular in dogs where you live or in the UK in general or do they both have about the same popularity?

Cats are cool, but you can't call their adult character when they're kittens. If you want a known quantity, adopt an adult cat that has lost their forever home. They has a sad.

As for maintenance, brush them, feed them, and empty the litter box. You never have to walk a cat in a blizzard, they won't have that shit.

Dogs are wolves with the interesting parts bred out of them. I've been stalked by a pack of 13 Mexican wolves while raking leaves. I turned around and the whole pack was ... estimating their chances of getting to me. I love double hurricane fences.

Both are popular. I could not say which is the more popular. The British are notoriously a nation of animal lovers.

I am not fond of dogs, which counts against me a bit, socially. London (Greater London) is better for dogs than many cities, due to the prevalence of small parks and gardens where they can exercise (and sh1t, though the Brits are now mostly very well trained to clear up after their dogs - a welcome change from when I was a child). London is an amalgamation of lots of villages that have grown and coalesced, which accounts for the parks. The City of London, proper, is small: just the bit round St Paul's, the Bank of England and the Tower.

I was claimed as property by my ex wife's cat the night I met the her. The cat, not my ex..

She'd follow me through the snow for the 20 minute one-mile trip to the store on foot that would've taken 20 minutes by car on a good weather day. She got old and sick and I had to put her down. She broke my heart, and I can never have a cat again. I still choke up after many years.

I absolutely love dogs, and thank God I'll be dead (probably) before my currently beloved dog gets old and sick as well.

They're like babies forever, but capable of so many things that human children will never match. Early warning systems extraordinaire, amazing squirrel chasers and ball retrievers, eyes that tell all. You ever have a dog that tried to lie to you? It is just slapstick hilarious with the eyes that cut one way, then the other, then look at you as if to say, "Who, me?" Not to mention ear and tail language...

When I was a full on hermit I lived with four dogs in the bush ... I was never so happy before or after..I was the alfa... we were a pack.

I doubt if any other human has had such an experience. Usually humans take a boss role but it was like I was one of them.

We would sing together and no one can imagine what that was like.

I crossed over and it was like I was one of them.

We walked thru the bush when we stopped one 10 meters in front, one ten meters behind, one ten meters to the right one ten meters to the right. If the wind was behind two would go to the front cause they know whats down wind.

When I woke up there was always this little face inches away beaming with joy...I could never be sad or alone.

I allowed them to be proud I dont think many would see the way they are when they are proud.

Humans intimidate them and never see them proud.

When I first went to this shack it rained no stop.. I was alone with no way out as I told folk not to come by for a while and I had no transport...the roof leaked everything was wet and no hope to start a fire ( years later I could find dry stuff in any rain but not then) I was so cold and wet, the bed was wet everything wet and freezing but I laid on the wet bed and the dogs on me over me and we kept each other dry and alive.

I learnt a communication I cant describe nor would I try...and it works with most all creatures.

I love animals period. The wife is the same. so we would be "both, and then some..."

We raise and rehabilitate wolves and our main male (now deceased) adopted and loved cats. he also adopted a pit bull, some chickens, a couple pigmy goats, and more... he taught that Pit to be every bit as loving and she (the Pit Bull) subsequently raised a fawn to be a beautiful buck that played with her in the yard, even after going off to breed and bringing other deer back to feed (and play with the Pit)

Thanks for the info on cats and how to take care of them. I know that cats are a low maintenance pet when compared to dogs. What kind of cat breeds are best for first time cat owners?

Good to know you had a good fence in between you and the wolves while they were staking you and estimating their chances of getting to you. Can you approach wolves at all or are they too aggressive towards humans, afraid of humans, or dangerous to humans?

That is nice that cats and dogs are popular in the UK and London. Parks are the perfect places for dogs to run and play. Gardens are nice places to walk them. What breeds of cats and dogs are most popular in London, if you know?

I think humans have a special connection to dogs and cats. Humans have lived with dogs and cats for hundreds of years. We probably have an instinctual bond by now. That is probably why humans love and find joy in dogs and cats so much.
