you should reread the op as well as all the rest of the posts as there was not a single mention of whether a show is deemed stupid or not. why you took offense to feel a need to point out how other cultures also have stupid shows in your opinion is beyond me considering i never said western tv was stupid, just pointing out the differences in some ways. uh, it's comedy. hello?? it's about why a show is appealing which i pointed out why certain types of shows or because the way they are shot/done are. you may prefer kardashian type reality tv over this. maybe are hilarious to you and some others. everyone has different taste. i think this is entertaining in a different way because the reactions are not as contrived but let to happen naturally. it's more 'reality' tv, in that sense as if you are right there with them in the same room with their actual moments. it's relatable and feels very live. it's pretty obvious why as people are being recorded warts and all and their embarassing as well as silly or just the mundane moments are not edited out as much to present only one image: the full spectrum of human experience, reactions and emotions, not just the primped and glamorous celebrity facade.
this is very true. no one will truly love you unconditionally as much as your own child. especially, if you have a son, they are the true knight in shining armor in your life, not other men because they really care for your well-being and welfare sincerely to the end.
these shows are hilariously honest. this one is called 'i live alone' (lol) and his mom says for all the world to hear, 'i know you don't like to shower.' lmao. the ugly face battle. ya know, how people are always trying to take the best pics and delete the worst ones, especially to put online. this is celebrating the ugly ones. these are so cool because it's so regular/normal and down to earth. it's completely unpretentious and record all the whimsical silly things you do. ironicly, the most creative and idealistic people have the most down to earth personable side.
i saw his duet with yiruma a few years ago but i i did not know that it was this henry. i am really glad (and impressed) as he's a really genuinely nice and humble young man. that is actually rare as most celebrities are about keeping up appearances and not admitting any faults or weaknesses. he goes out of his way to make others feel less inadequate (lol). it's really impressive just how humble and refreshingly honest of a person he really is as well as not afraid at all to make fun of himself or just be himself with his human foibles to help others laugh. very unique considering his talents when there are less talented people who are far more pretentious. you can tell he has a very good/kind/compassionate heart.
That 'boot camp series' kind of male bonded them, somewhat. Gun hyung is a very handsome man and he is kind too. Because of the age difference, he is considered ajusshi (adult male) and henry, oppah (younger male). That soundproof room is not so soundproof. I dont know what it is but whenever he picks up the violin, his expression just reminds me of another era, usually vaudeville, like he is from another time. There is something romantic in the expression also but old school, not modern. But he is chinese in korea doing kpop. Interesting. Didnt he say he wanted to do musicals? lol. One of the smartest customs of their culture is the practical gift giving or housewarming. They usually bring bathroom tissue, toothpaste sets or a beautiful dessert, fresh fruit, takeout etc. Who cant use toilet paper? I like their custom of how they tend to bring something useful as a housewarming if invited.
Diy big mac. they really like to use metal for dishware. koreans are also the only ones to use metal chopsticks. in u.s. military, the trays are plastic/melamine, not stainless steel. Diving from a frigging bridge.
these are more realistic of their videos as per boot camp but these are still toned down for the camera. what does that say? the title is incorrect. this is calm. these aren't frightening or harsh. civilians don't get to view frightening or harsh part, so don't have a concept of it. also, all these videos showed very little physical stuff. it was the same in real boot camp as when the military times or families would come around, they would be more lax for the camera to please the public. literally, two-faced to not disturb the sensibilities of the public. you don't get asked to do pinny-anny stuff like sit and stand up or do one-off weak push-ups here and there. you have to knock them out until the drill sergeant decides you stop which is never usually just a few. also, they pay attention to your form while you are doing pushups so that they are not half-assed. all of the weak pushups done by these celebrities would not have passed muster and an actual soldier would have been further dogged out until they were drenching with sweat. there is a reason why that once a veteran has completed boot camp, they never have to repeat it again, no matter what service they choose to enter in the future. it's because it's extremely intense (except air force which is easy). i have yet to see a video that really showcases that in reality. in a nutshell, it's nastiness, brutality and harshness 24/7 except when you are asleep or in the classroom but even then you will be fighting dozing off from exhaustion and will be punished. actually, that's part of the game.
again, this is not a poisonous snake instructor as this is a civilian pov. this type drill instructor would be considered the nice/calm one as he is speaking rationally/civilly. that instructors' (calm one) main task/duty is to explain to recruits standard operating procedure regarding every task/mission as well as watch for injuries. the other two drill sergeants are the real 'poisonous snakes' as they will not have a remotely calm or rational demeanor. there are no compomises or two-way conversations/exchange with them. the difference in the style would be to get in the recruits faces and start swearing, berating, belittling or screaming commands like a banshee out of hell. truthfully, every single film has only showcased the 'calm' instructor, not the hellish ones. this is because it would disturb the audience as it's outright/overtly abusive. let me explain what that means: every single social etiquette/rule that is considered appropriate is turned on it's head, short of using racist or sexist slurs which some have crossed the line but usually they know what words can pass or not.
ultimately, that's what soldiers are, paid mercenaries and expendable humans. the civilian sector has some illusions about it so they don't have to feel guilty. it's not a mistake, that during boot camp one is physically, emotionally and mentally abused in preparation because honestly, that's what it is. it is what it is because when push comes to shove, they will be the ones to have to sacrifice for others. this is why the veterans administration tries to make up for it. many veterans have chronic back or knee injuries, which is the most common complaint. then, there are mental health issues, not always caused by the military but it will exacerbate existing ones, not be benign or heal them. they try to heal you after they use you. there is no difference in the training between the males and females except for the pt test criteria taking into account female physiology. the only slack the drill sergeants ever cut us was lightening our load during road marches because they knew we would never make it with a full pack. we were already loaded down with thirty pounds of equipment as it was and an additional seventy pound pack was out of the question. you also double-time it sometimes which is basically a jog along often sandy terrain and mounds. my fastest two-mile run was fifteeen minutes, the high school track ran it in eleven minutes. the males are even faster, sometimes even nine minute two-mile runs but they were young. we all were but males (especially younger males) can usually run faster and that's why the pt test criteria is what it is. still, there was little difference between push-ups and sit-ups between male and females because you are dogged so much physically to get in condition. the only difference is in the physical strength portion as well as grenades (most males can usually throw farthest) and most can run faster than females, unless they were cross-country runners or conditioned before. not everyone makes it and not everyone wants to either. two girls were attritioned out early as it was too hard for them and another girl was trying to by messing up on purpose or acting out in formation such as putting her hat on backwards, trying to act loony etc. if they know you are doing it on purpose, they will not let easily let you get out. sadly, what is not known (to the public) is there was often private sobbing/crying from injuries or because of the strain from harsh training. it doesn't matter if you have blisters or tired, you have to keep going as if you don't or aren't. most of these videos are absolutely pollyanna bullshit. it's completely different and what's shown is sanitized for the public. the only breaks we would have is kp duty and often the civilians were extra kind to us because we were so young and knew we were put through so much. there were some nice times such as parades and once we got to go to a base concert; couldn't care less because i would have rather used that time to get some sleep but everyone was forced to go. lol
this part is realistic except for the hair and makeup. there is no way you can get away with wearing a pony tail or have wispy pieces hanging every which way. you will be chewed out big-time for that. there is no makeup allowed and if you brought any, it will be confiscated until the end of boot camp. the only toiletry item you are allowed to keep that you bring is sunscreen, they will issue you everything else which is basic hygiene items and chapstick. that's all you are allowed. all hair must be above the collar line or put up. it's all about no-nonsense. i remember one of our drill sergeants walking past one of the girls and told her she better fix her hair or he would 'chop it off' himself and she just had some stray pieces, not hanging down her back. it must be all tucked up, tucked in or have a short boy cut. absolutely unrealistic and inconceivable to have a ponytail at all below the collar and definitely not hanging down your back, unless their military has different standards. also, those sit-ups that you do that are not of correct form are not counted. your hands must be clasped behind your head at all times. the only realistic view into military training i've seen was a short live footage of warrant officer training, west point or the air force academy to give an idea of how intense and brutal it is. they are boring. what do they think they are on the show for? either show the gritty realism, your pain and suffering, embarassing failures/mishaps or be funny.
this is so adorable. he was the only one on the 'real man' show that was the most entertaining. geez, what an alcoholic. notice the empty wine bottles lined against the walls. the flame with the alcohol gives that slightly charred taste. this is better. if you are going to have a show about the military, you want to see the real stuff or at least the funny parts, not just people going through the motions. funny things do happen during military training at times. i've never seen a drill sergeant 'really' laugh but it does happen sometimes. the drill said war songs are not for you to show off your singing or to be extra. he means to have respect for the purpose of the song and not be flippant.
this is what i like about their culture is they don't hit on everyone just because they are of the opposite gender. they are just humane, civil and friendly. maybe it's because they are slightly more emotionally evolved but they seem to innately understand/know that just because someone is attractive or of the opposite gender and/or single, does not mean they are right one for you, or even appropriate. they understand refined discrimination/judgement/taste. but in america, i've noticed that men tend to hit on just about anyone and everyone indiscriminately if they are single and sometimes, not even if they are single. i never understood that part because a person is complex and the one you are looking for is unique for you, not just someone of the opposite gender who you deem attractive or is attractive. that's too shallow for comprehensive compatibility.
this is about as much of a dark side as you are going to see on film. of course, he's not entirely innocent or angelic as he appears most of the time. he used some profanity and was being sort of annoying. it's true that different cultures tend to view you differently, have varied perceptions or they have illusions about you. lmao for instance: this is backwards. it's north americans who think this is okay. from the pov of koreans, this type of talk, especially profanity used so casually is considered trashy, ill manners or inappropriate (and that is more likely true). it's that they are not registering this type of obnoxiousness to judge it. you will not hear profanity on korean tv or very rare contexts. koreans only use slurs very rarely so when they do, you probably deserve it because you are being a jerk. of course, there are bad people who use slurs against others unfairly but in general, it's more unacceptable as it's considered uncouth. the most common one is gaeseki (sob). i was called that once by a vendor selling sunglasses when i told her that the price was too high for such cheap ones and that i could buy the same in america for half the price. she told me then i should go back there and called me a gaeseki. i did deserve that so i wasn't that surprised. lol but then again: that sea bass clam chowder looks delicious. he made a song for being impatiently hungry. that was hilarious.
