In today's American how might class be defined in communist terms as perceived by those who voted for Trump?

You can't ignore race in America.
Those who voted for Trump are unable to perceive Marxist "class" - along with other aspects of physical and economic reality whose recognition would interfere with the Koch and Exxon agenda.

The Marxist narrative is that there are exploiters and the exploited, rich and poor, them and us. It's actually a simple concept.

And it ignores race. (Also gender, btw, but why complicate unnecessarily when the obvious division points to the obvious political division). The European analysis never did comprehend the American situation.

The Post Modernist seems to have taken up the slack with the concept of Intersectionality.

To some degree we're all under suppression, but I wonder exactly what your thoughts are following the above term. My sense is that there is a perceived class structure in America--rich and poor--but those defining lines don't match up with traditional boundaries. It seems that in the worst revolts, the intellectuals are the first to be shot.

The intellectuals are the first to be saved , in today's society .

It is the common people who are sacrificed today .

Yep - although the definition of "intellectuals" changes with the times.
It is generally the common people who start the revolts.

Race. You cannot, ever, ignore race in the US. The people who developed the theoretical basis of "class" were not American, and never did get a solid grip on racism as a structural factor. There are similar "perception of class" difficulties in India, with the castes, where they are physiologically distinguishable.

And forty years of Republican Party agitprop, leveraged from race, creating delusions to be thought of as "perceived" - these delusions don't match traditional boundaries, because they don't match the reality the traditional boundaries mapped.

The racial distinctions were as much a Democrat phenomena. Exploitation for votes, while reducing a group of people as perpetual victims, is as much a tragedy as yelling a slur from your pickup window.

Yeah, yelling "nigger" out of a window is just as bad as listening to one's constituents. Republican politics 101.

Reinforcing the notion that one is a "nigger" can come from both sides of the isle.

It can. For the past 50 years, it has not.

Defending a man from a racist attack is the opposite of calling him a "nigger."

The assumption that only a white liberal democrat can raise a black man from his despair. Perhaps the black man has the competence to stand on his own if given the respect.

You're plainly ignorant of history. Go read a book yourself.

I don't need a book to understand that freedom rests with the individual. There is physical slavery and mental slavery. I think the physical aspects of slavery are gone, but mental chains still persist. Lowering expectations won't free the slaves.
