Creation took 5 days, not 7

Everybody knows that according to the Abrahamic religions, God created everything in 7 days.
He rested on day 7 (Saturday or Sunday?), so we are down to 6 days.

On day 1, he created three things, Heaven, Earth and Light.

On day 2, God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

In some translations the 'vault' is called a 'firmament', which he calls 'Heaven', but this can't be right, because we already know he created Heaven on day 1. Modern believers have managed to work out that the sky isn't Heaven, because Heaven is some special spirit world outside of the material world.

So what exactly is the 'vault' and what are the waters ?
There is a clue later in the Bible. We are told that God opened the windows in the vault, to let the waters above fall through, to flood the earth and kill all life (except those fortunate enough to get on the Ark).

Perhaps the waters below are the oceans, lakes, rivers etc. and the waters above was thought to be some kind of reservoir, from which we get rain when the windows are open.

I suggest that this 'vault' doesn't really exist.
This means God did nothing on day 2.
So we are down to 5 days.

Didn't you say just recently in another thread that you have studied the Bible, taken notes and concluded that it is a collection of man-made stories, not Godlike wisdom?

    Yeah:
If so, don't you reject Genesis outright? So why argue if it's 5 days or 7, when you know both answers are equally wrong, and that the correct answer is "hokum"?

Curious what makes you right, where you get your information to be such authority ?

I made no statements of right. Nor have I expressed any authority.

I pointed out that the OP's own logic leads to the conclusion that he does not think the world was created in 7 or 5 days He said explicitly that he doesn't believe God exists and therefore, for him the correct answer is "hokum".

My post has nothing to do with what you or I or anyone else thinks about the issue - only the OP's own logic.

I would probably help if you read my post #2 more carefully.

Wow, and he only started that thread today too!

Ted, can you explain why most of your threads and posts are about religion? For someone that thinks a belief in a god is pointless, you seem obsessed with starting threads about religion.
This reminds me of old 'Greatest I Am.' No, I'm not saying Ted's a sock of GIA.

I'd hazard a guess that the other of this posts I mentioned explains his motivation; I'd say he has come to his own conclusions, and is now wishing to verify his beliefs, by publishing his findings for discussion.

You persist in a ridiculously naive reading of the bible. I know you want to ridicule Christianity, but this is feeble way to do so. You are attacking a childish straw man. Only a few fundamentalist sects think this biblical story of creation should be read literally. So arguing against it being literally true is total waste of your energies: everyone sensible has known that for several centuries. It is only the 7th Day Adventists, coming along late to the party in the c.20th, who have tried, absurdly, to pretend otherwise.

You need to make your mind up what it is you are really opposed to. If it is just the silly literalism of the 7th Day Adventists and kindred sects, then we all agree, there is no issue and you can still be a normal sensible Christian, if you wish. If you are a true atheist, you should be attacking religions in general, and doing so in a more fundamental way, for example by attacking dualism (the idea of a non-corporeal spirit), the notion of there being a god, etc.

As it is, these posts of yours are merely flogging a dead horse.

    '' Verify'' is the word.
Removing the body of Christ from the cross:
Can't wait till he gets around to Joah and the Whale.
Ted, where are you building your ark? Backyard?

I think you'll find that it was Jonah with a big fish.
    A whale is a mammal.

And then you get to Genesis 2, which shows a completely different order of creation. So even by the material in the Bible no number of days is supportable.

Maybe god is a metaphor too. Maybe none of the Bible should be taken literally.

They didn't know mammals from fish back then.

Yes I think that is a distinct possibility.

Seriously? They didn't know air breathers from water breathers? Or was that just a quibble?

Even if a fisherman observed them breathing, so what, they were a different kind of fish. The word mammal wasn't even invented yet. That happened in 1758.

SFW? "Warm blooded" wasn't invented in 1758. The ancients knew they were different kinds of things. Please try to remember that they weren't stupid.
