i was just researching lucid dreaming and had a question,

i myself have lucid dreams but there not the same as described on this site regarding the facts of lucid dreaming, they say you cant atually control your dream only your attitude in the dream, tthis is false i can control my dreams when i realise im dreaming, why does it say you cannot control your actual dream when i have controlled everything from, enviroment, powers i have, abilities ie flight, and a number of other things including whole terraforming of the whole planet once,

    peace

You must be confused. Everything I read about lucid dreaming on this site says you can control your dreams. Maybe you were thinking of something else?

When I have the ability to control dreams, it seems to be when I am almost awake, and I realize that if I try too hard to control it then I will wake up. An example of this was when I was walking around a street and having complete control, and since I knew I had this control, I tried to make a beautiful woman appear... but I woke up.

I had a lucid dream yesterday afternoon while taking a nap. I didn't try to manipulate the dream in any way, but simply went with the ride. For some reason I can't remember the first half of the dream, but I remember the second half very clearly. I can't determine any significance in the imagery, other than the contrast was very sharp. As an example, I was sitting in a flat field of grass, but 50 yards away there was a steep cliff rising up in the East. The light and shadows were very pronounced. There were people who stood taller than myself, which prompted a joke on my part about being among giants.

I've stopped trying to control my dreams because my imagination is limited when compared to the natural imagination that flows from my mind when left on its own

When you start controlling your dreams it means you're awake enough to make decisions. Nothing mystical about it. I do it all the time. I'm a very light sleeper.

What makes you think it was a lucid dream then? As opposed to a dream where you dreamt you were lucid?

I often have dreams that are going to end poorly (a mugging, falling off a ladder, etc.) and I say "no, I don't think so" and change the end.

    I've had dreams within dreams.

I've added content before to bad dream endings, I don't know exactly how conscious I was at the time. However, it may be better to interpret by way of association the dream content. As if you can dare into consciousness the bad underlying emotions and formulate plans of action if need be.

Last night my dream ended with a threat of being overpowered and raped. I don't think the content itself is as important as to why the heck I dreamed that...

There's this guy who's jealous of me for being smart and pretty (yes, dreams are inherently narcissistic.) He is a raging alcoholic and uses an intoxication facade to insult and debase me around others. He can be self destructive and violent also when drunk. He had a court hearing the day before where I heard that the judge was really unimpressed with his erratic behavior and stupid excuses. I wasn't in the courtroom but I was told that he mentioned my name in an attempt to blame me for something he was in fact guilty of. I don't know if he actually believes his own lie(s) but WTF? This guy has come looking for me before on drunken whims but if he does it again he could have very little restraint. Anyway, locking my door and being on the lookout/keeping a low profile for the next two weeks is really all I should be concerned with.

There's also more in the dream like fudge brownies and cat nipped chirping cat toys that go off with a slight nudge, but the associations with these are more to do with chemistry and marijuana. Anyway, I think the general themes of dreams start at the beginning with a childhood recollection, at least that's what I got from, Freud. I've only been able to trace one of my dreams to such a point before, and here I'm only talking about the ending of a dream.

    But that's another story.

That's the point, you didn't consciously manipulate thought fragments to fuse them into a coherent whole, but people do that reflexively, so the probability is that you did. It's just the way we work.

Yeah. I had a wild one, where I dreamed that I was sleeping. And then I woke up. And then I woke up from that. And then I woke up from that.

I usually take way two things from my dreams (not lucid dreams per se, just any dreams I remember).
1] the plot is usually inspired by some daytime trivial event that stuck in my peripheral consciousness. A dog surprising me, a news article about some random thing. It's not symbolic what the plot is, just left over bits of daytime experiences lying around on the cutting room floor of my brain. I can trace the plot of the dream back to such a trivial event the previous day.
2] the theme is usually an emotion - often anxiety over something or other in the longer time frame of weeks (or months, or years or decades). It is this theme that is more of an insight into my mental state.

BTW, while anxiety is a common theme, I often have amazingly joyous dreams too. I once dreamt that I was literally flying. Not just sort of hovering, and "willing" myself thither and yon, but actually twisting my body and limbs to change the air flow over me in ways that allowed me to control how I could turn, swoop dive and climb. What a joy!

That drunk guy that went to court is a real person. The trigger for him in the dream was that I was disturbed in learning he mentioned me in court. But as soon as I opened my eyes the fear from the dreams situation almost instantly subsided.

I have a cat toy like that (for my cat of course) and no brownies in reality have ever tasted so decadent as in the dream.

I left out most my dream content to save me from having to describe so much.

I tell my dreams to my wife as we drive in to work.
Captive audience. I can go on forever about all the inane things in my dreams.

I've actually changed the environment within a dream, but my imagination seems limited during lucid dreaming. Just letting it flow naturally is much more interesting.

Yeah I have controlled my dreams when I knew I was dreaming. I used to have a reccuring dream where I was in a skyscraper and it collapses. I used to wake before I landed. It was very nine-elevenesque. The last time I had the dream I said to a woman in the tower, "Am I dreaming?" She replied, "Yes, you're dreaming." I knew then the building was about to collapse, but I was without fear.

    Well, you are somewhat unconscious.
