In the U.S. Christmas is a legal holiday. Therefore legally it is a secular holiday, although Christians may obsere it as a reigious holiday.
As I think I have posted here, or maybe another forum, Christians had / have no idea when jc was born. Having said that it was unlikely to be 25th December if you believe the descriptions of the conditions at the time of the so called birth However pagans had festive celebrations lasting about 2 - 3 weeks in December for the winter solstice (Northern hemisphere). Christians proceeded to annex the festivities and declare them celebrations for the birth of jc So if Christians start complaining Christmas has lost its meaning NO it has not. As a pagan bacchanal celebration it's great. As a jc birthday celebration it sucks. Instead of drunkenness happiness you share with friends you have solemn ceremonies. This is where you have to get dressed up in your best, go to sing the praises of a god, who never turns to the party and has not even been seen for 2,000 years Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Didn't Jesus create the moon two-thousands and eighteen years ago? Hence the barrage of natural disasters: Earthquakes, floods and Underwater volcanic eruptions causing islands to rise from the seas. Hence the significance and celebrations.
