Seems like pole dancing is trying to become a Olympic sport
    Well why not?

Do you have evidence for this (atrocious-sounding) development? Is it likely, given the "me too" culture shift Western society seems now to be undergoing? Is there any male pole dancing?

Personally speaking, I think the Olympic Games is absurdly overblown already (it wrecks the entire economies of some countries that host it!) and should be cut radically down to real sports that take it back to its origins (the fastest, the strongest etc).

I have the queasy feeling that some recent additions (beach volleyball? synchronised swimming?) are little more than a cynical excuse to show young women cavorting around in agreeably skimpy costumes. Not very, erm, modern, shall we say? Though good for TV audiences and thus for advertisers.

Came up as a news clip on Fox News, along with arm wrestling and a couple of other odd stuff

    Agree

Think you might mean political correct but who cares I MIGHT watch cavorting if I don't have anything on my latest toy VR 3D reality

As for that they should STOP doing all drug testing. Millions wasted. Let contestants uses as much as they want of any drug they want
Turns all events into a learning opportunities
As each athlete drops dead it can be a teaching lesson about dangers of drug abuse or lessons on the Darwin Awards and survival of the SENSIBLE

One where stag party entertainment might become a world wide sport with all the attendant off shots
I'm guessing that it will be cleaned somewhat and there will not be a division for "The most $1 bills in the bra"
And I forgot to put in the reply to exchem yes there are male pole dancers

I bet I could beat Ronda Rousey in a Bantamweight Ultimate Beer Drinking Championship bout, but pole dancing is too subjective to score on.

If you are that good at drinking, you may not have the ideal physique or fitness for dancing anyway.

I could pole dance while guzzling beer you stupid git!

    :EDIT:

But I wouldn't go so far as to take on, Rousey, in the octagon with a brew in my hand...

One lady I had a nice romantic entanglement with in Bali won a beer drinking contest in a well known nightclub in Kuta called The Bounty
They had Open Mic for most of the evening and she belted out a few songs. Good voice. Found out she sang in the church choir
Here are some of the ladies getting ready to race at drinking beer

I wanted to have a beer drinking contest with these opponents:

And yes, maybe derail the thread that that had no rail in the first place.

    No doubt, no doubt.

Didn't realise Canadians used the term "git" by the way. I thought it was just a Brit thing.

    Think you would loose
As to the thread it struck me as being odd that someone (a boxer) who had just retained his championship title and was about to make his way to America for a multi million dollar match referred to the match as entertainment. The sports reporter picked up on that and made the comment "I thought boxing was a sport"
The ramifications of the comment in my mind become:- Sport you aim to be the best to win - Entertainment you can fix it anyway whichway to keep the crowds amused
I never have understood sport. Yes I get the idea of being the best. But the hype and crap that goes with it?????? What's with that?
Maybe it's my medical bias but I'd like to see The Brain Surgery Olympics

Another thought bubble. Will Tiddley Winks make the Olympics before Brain Surgery

I wasn't born there but I am a U.K. citizen by default. And thus my dad thought it best to enrich me and my brother with the best of the culture.

Couldn't they sort of merge it with pole vaulting.

I forgot that was/is an actual event.

Erm... Maybe olympic events would events would be more popular if they were done naked?

That would truly be going back to the original

Though I understand that there was only one event, a foot race

Sponsors will be demanding athletes be tattooed with brand marks.
