A recent study would push the emergence of "modern humans" back beyond 300kyrs (If I find the article should I start a new thread, or post here?)
Sickle cell anemia kills people, but not until they're older. When young it helps protect against malaria.
Thank you! Have human being inherited any other cognitive disorders from Neanderthals like Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, or any Anxiety disorders?
Genetic code associated with such disorders seems to have been inherited from Neandertals, especially, and also Denisovans etc. But what effects this code had in neandertals is unknown - as are its actual effects, total, in sapiens. Inheriting code does not mean inheriting particular expressions, consequences, or effects.
I am sorry, what I meant was are the cognitive disorders Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, or any anxiety disorders Neanderthal influenced traits like Depression or Addiction to Tobacco?
Thanks, I had a feeling that Neanderthal influenced traits revolving around psychology and mental illness extended beyond depression and addiction to tobacco. Too bad we do not understand more about Human or Neanderthal psychology or mental illness yet. In order to understand Neanderthal psychology, or what effect these genetic codes we found that were associated with mental illness in Humans had on Neanderthals, we may need to have willing living Neanderthals to study. I agree that inheriting genetic code associated with mental illness does not guarantee you will develop a mental illness yourself because there are other factors involved with the onset and development of many mental illnesses such as environment and life experiences.
