Good is an actual quality like water that we need to "drink"

I agree and the same should hold for white collar crimes by the very wealthy.
Put a few of these criminal prominent citizens away for a couple of years and these practices will diminish drastically, IMO

Some people will not agree with me on this, to disagree should be a crime as well, but all crimes should be punished by execution, culling to be kind I call it...the money saved on prisons can go to more police.
In time the criminal gene or trait ( whatever) should be eliminate from the populace...then pension off the un necessary police force.

    I strongly disagree.
Stealing a loaf of bread to feed your hungry children should be punished by execution?
And that would save the state money? Who would be responsible for raising the children?

And you believe my disagreement with you should also be punished by execution?

Them's dangerous words and would lead to a total police state. Is this what you wish for?

Have you thought this through to its natural consequences.

You are sailing close to the wind although disagreement is OK at the moment it will be a crime when I take over.
Change that from a question to a statement and you can get off with only a warning.
Same thing here mame it a statement and you may be considered for the police force.
The remaining parent ...it will be a crime for them if they don't.
No no no..not at all but yes.
Yes and that is but one of the various benefits.
I just want to save the innocent.
Not really but it should play out OK only history will tell.

Unfortunately, the system is set up in such a way that a politician with honest tactics will not get elected.
The prerequisite for politicians being honest, is that people have to inform themselves of the issues. And they have to make their decisions more thoughtfully.
And they have to actually get out and vote.

As always, the power is actually in the people, not the leaders.

No it can't. But it can be managed.

And one must always weigh the consequences of the treatment. Sometimes they're worse than the disease.

    I would not disagree.

    We have compulsory voting.
It may not cause people to think but in my view preferable.

Any system falls victim to the lobbyists.
Not sure how but ban them.
Obviously they represent special interest groups which means its about how their clients can screw everyone else.

You have a very negative view of lobbyists.

Sure, some of them have insincere motives, but in general, lobbyists are people who feel their need are not being met. And after all, they get to vote on how their country runs too.

Consider women's rights lobbyists, minimum wage lobbyists, right to choose lobbyists, right to life lobbyists, environmental conservation , etc. etc. Would you simply ban them all from voting?

I hit the wall some 20 years ago.
I was prescribed Prozac. For 6 weeks nothing but woke up one day and all better.
I think when I saw another doctor after moving to the bush he put me on Zoloft (spelling?).
Can't remember his reasoning but after a month or two I stopped it.
And as I said I feel OK. Excellent really.

I display some oddities in my posts but honesty I am more centered and together than anyone I have met.

I am calm, not aggressive, patient, and hold a positive attitude.

I am stuck on a medication I cannot kick. The backlash of getting off it is much worse than the symptoms that put me on it in the first place. And they don't lessen over time.

True and what is worse my position is totally uninformed.
I have sortta been one in so far as I led a community to victory over a decision that did not suit me.
I was able to rally a crowd who were ready to roll over and accept the cutting off of a road to the small community where I lived.
After I finished my speech the crowd were ready to rip to bits the folk presenting the departments proposal (Dept of Main Roads back then I recall).
I was elected leader of the fight back and directed the campaign.
A grand battle over about six weeks where I totally out foxed a politician and a Government department.

Art of war..that sort of thing.
Yes there are others who represent others with less noble motives.
But I can not disagree with what you say , at least when you present it using groups I would support.
But the Gun Lobby, nuclear power mob,...and maybe some coal miners, those who avoid tax...my bad guys...
I would make them most accountable.
Yes if they don't fit my view..most certainly yes.

I have no problem with everyone having their vote but I dislike manipulation of the electorate by paid professionals... and I concede that I don't know what I am talking about...but I suspect politics is done by someone having a politician in their pocket.

Dave I am sorry you have such a situation to manage...but certainly the key is to realise when you can't solve a problem and manage it.

I avoided pain killers to help with my legs ( back operation)..
Its been years and there are days where I just want it to stop...it does not stop. But I manage.
The good news is just lately I think they are improving ..
I exercise, tell myself I have to be ready in a couple of years to, as the oldest man to do so, sail single handed around the world....that probably won't happen but a mate has this boat and... Well its doable.

Maybe my body tries to meet my expectations.
    Have you tried praying?

Indeed. As the doctors says: its about quality of life. Which option gives me a better quality?

Heh. I've often thought it would be awesome if God did exist. I wouldn't have to be responsible for my own life; I could just fob it off on God's Plan. It's like deciding to be a teenager - taking comfort in the belief there's always some authority figure that I'm powerless to change - a figure who's there to judge my actions for me, rather than me being responsible for myself... Believers have it so easy...

Alas, mine sight is too clear for that kind of wishful thinking.

Your post # 82 would cast some doubt on that.
I used to own a 26 ' shallow keeled lake boat and had dreams of sailing the coast from west to east. But being inland had to settle for sailing on Lake Coeur d'Alene (a very long lake), which presented its own challenges with constant drafts from the valleys in the surrounding mountains, which could be very strong especially on windy (great sailing) days. Once I was actually caught in a downdraft caused dolldrums. I finally sold the boat but did fullfill a boyhood dream of sailing in a reasonably large boat carrying a large sails.
