CaC03 is not very soluble . 0.013 gm/lit, so I am not sure what is the effect of antacid , if the CaC03 becomes CaCl2 due to HCl the Ph will be about 8 to 8.5

Yes but it is taken as powder or a suspension and is then dissolved by stomach acid, reducing the acidity, at least locally in the lower oesophagus where reflux is occurring, which is what causes heartburn. That is why preparations such as Gaviscon are made viscous, so they coat the surface and hang around for a while.

In fact I have found the best solution for acid indigestion is to take an H2 antagonist, such as Zantac. This reduces the acid secretion at source, for several hours, giving long enough for the irritation to subside.

But why is it not actually the opposite ; that heartburn is the lack of stomach acid rather than too much ?

Using antacid tablets worked like a champ for me as well .

The problem was that I had to do this everyday .

This puzzled me , sometimes in the morning I know that there was a problem with digestion . You know a lump of food that was there but shouldn't have .

Look up heart burn , in the classic theory , heartburn is about , to much acid in the stomach . When heartburn is about to little acid in the stomach . The older you get the less stomach acid you produce .

In my experience , using ACV , it has changed my thinking about acid reflux , from experience .

Look try and use , the bottle will always tell how to consume it .

ACV may not work for you , it did me though .

Give ACV time . ( apple cider vinegar ) .
