In this context, "clean" is a religious concept, such as in "cleansed of sin by being baptized, saved, blessed etc.
The question may seem very odd, but it is based on the scriptures, so carries some weight...

In Leviticus chapter 12 there are the following claims about babies...

If a woman has a baby boy, she shall be unclean for 7 days

But if a woman has a girl, she shall be unclean for 14 days

Some month's ago, I got a visit from a Jehovah witness named Mike.
I asked him about these claims and he didn't have an explanation.
So I suggested to Mike that it means that men are superior to women.
He said he would have to talk to the Elders about it.
A week later, he visited again ! He said he had asked the Elders.
Their answer was, Yes, men are indeed superior to women !

    http://biblehub.com/commentaries/leviticus/12-5.htm

As in her separation.—Better, as in the time of her monthly courses.

(See Leviticus 12:2.) In the case of a daughter the days of purification in both stages is exactly double that prescribed at the birth of a son. The reason for this difference is probably owing to the fact that the ancients believed that the physical derangement of the system is far greater at the birth of a girl than at the birth of a boy, and that it requires a longer time for the effects to pass away

Weird but also a long time ago with lower knowledge and no longer relevant

Who ever invented this explanation must think we can't read.

You can read a few verses below or you can look in your Bible yourself.

    It starts with these words...
THE LORD SAID TO MOSES “Say to the Israelites: 'A woman...

    Sorry about the capitalization.

This is not some weird idea that the "ancients" had about "the physical derangement of the system".

The "regulations" were given to Moses by God. God knows all about childbirth; he designed it, allegedly.

Below are the first few verses of Leviticus Chapter 12.
Notice the double and single quotation marks.
The double quotes indicate someone is speaking.
It is clear that God is speaking to Moses.
God is telling Moses to pass on some regulations about childbirth.
Moses is the messenger, not the regulator.
The single quotes indicate the exact words that Moses must use when speaking to the Israelites.

    =================
The Lord said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites: ‘A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding. When the days of her purification for a son or daughter are over, she is to bring to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a dove for a sin offering. He shall offer them before the Lord to make atonement for her, and then she will be ceremonially clean from her flow of blood. These are the regulations for the woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. But if she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’ ”

I've done some research into this topic.
There is another "explanation" for the difference between boys and girls.
Boys are/were circumcised, which is a religious cleansing procedure.
Blood is spilled and this always pleases God.
The boy is religiously cleaner, so the mother is cleaner.
Jesus spilled blood (finally), so none of this matters now.

You see, it all makes sense !

The reason is that men wrote the bible.

Well, there's your problem right there. Heck, if you read Leviticus you can't go to church with glasses or contacts, you can't get a haircut and you can't wear cotton/polyester blends - ever. (And of course there's the part where you have to kill all your gay friends.) Best read that as entertainment.

"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."

"No man of your descendants in succeeding generations, who has any defect, may approach to offer the bread of his God. For any man who has a defect shall not approach: a man blind or lame, who has a marred face or any limb too long, a man who has a broken foot or broken hand, or is a hunchback or a dwarf, or a man who has a defect in his eye, or eczema or scab . ."

"Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material."

"If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them."
