As time progresses the Neanderthal becomes more modern human

Man from Africa does not carry genes from Neanderthal, but modern man and Asian man du carry them
Neanderthal genes provide gene which affect on skin and hair. Now we learn the vitamin D is not the factor to skin color ( I hope mother Bell reads the article ) and the kinky become straight .
    Any way.

A recent study that scoured human genomes for Neanderthal alleles suggests that our Neanderthal inheritance has contributed to nondisease-related characteristics, such as skin tone, hair color, sleep patterns, mood, and even a person’s smoking status. Another study, this one focused on Neanderthal remains of unusually high quality, identifies a wealth of new gene variants that are influential in modern humans, including variants related to plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and vitamin D, eating disorders, visceral fat accumulation, rheumatoid arthritis, schizophrenia, and responses to antipsychotic drugs.

The first study comes from researchers based at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. These researchers, led by Janet Kelso, Ph.D., published their findings October 5 in the American Journal of Human Genetics, in an article entitled “The Contribution of Neanderthals to Phenotypic Variation in Modern Humans.” The article describes how the Max Planck researchers used baseline phenotypes collected for 112,000 individuals by the UK Biobank to elaborate on previous findings that identified associations between signatures of positive selection on Neanderthal DNA and various modern human traits. Whereas previous studies in this vein focused on disease risk, the American Journal of Human Genetics report focused on “specific phenotypic consequences.”

“Here, we show that Neanderthal DNA affects skin tone and hair color, height, sleeping patterns, mood, and smoking status in present-day Europeans,” the article’s authors wrote. “Interestingly, multiple Neanderthal alleles at different loci contribute to skin and hair color in present-day Europeans, and these Neanderthal alleles contribute to both lighter and darker skin tones and hair color, suggesting that Neanderthals themselves were most likely variable in these traits.”

Neanderthal were our ancestors. Even some Africans have Neanderthal genes. Those genes are also being slowly selected out, as they don't seem to provide a strong advantage.

Are you saying that Neanderthals became 'modern humans'?

You have proof of this, yes?

Because your link shows that there was interbreeding, which is well known by now, but it does not support your contention that "Neanderthals becomes more modern human".

An interesting choice of words. Are you suggesting that "man from Africa" is not "modern"?

What the devil are you even talking about? No one has said that vitamin D is "the factor to skin color".

You really, REALLY, need to get a new online translation program.

You do realise that the genes "modern human" got from Neanderthals weren't all great, yes?

    Did you read that study?

    In full?

Because you seem to only focus on the positives, when the study itself looks at both the positive and the negative. Unless of course you think hair colour and skin colour is a 'positive'?

    And?

That's exactly what interbreeding means. They produced viable offspring, and the gene pools mixed.

Yes.. I know that. But that is not what he means.

In my life span , since I attended the forum of Dr. Karl long before it was pulled off, I was fighting the Australian forumites ( most of them ) keeping Neandertal as a salvage, and you are keeping the tradition. I wonder how they feel now.
You can keep your modern ( aborigine ) man in your jungle, and the descendant of neandertal are traveling in space.

    None of that made sense.

It's the latest take on racial supremacy - the "aborigines" left behind are all in one "race".
    Because science.

Did I say something wrong ? Yes all in one race but of different family, does that sound better ?

    No.

And yet they can't define "race" in any sensible fashion.

They thought your intelligence was lacking too?

All human ancestors were "savage" in today's parlance. Early Homo sapiens would also be described as being "savage".

They probably still think you are lacking in intelligence. Because you have not offered anything that would allow anyone to believe that you were not lacking. For example:

Your lack of understanding of Indigenous Australians and your racism with the 'jungle' jibe aside, what makes you an even bigger, well, moron, is that you do not know that Indigenous Australians also have Neanderthal DNA..

So you should not disparage Indigenous Australians, timojin. They are your cousins, what with your Neanderthal DNA and all.

Neanderthals became modern humans. He's correct.

Some Neanderthal DNA survives in modern humans.

They interbred with modern humans and our ancestors, not to mention the fact there was interbreeding with other hominid species as well.

There's what? Around 1-6% of their DNA in most non-African homo sapien species? Would you say that that qualifies as Neanderthals becoming "modern humans"?

I think they helped beef up the stock, so to speak, by providing our ancestors with the necessary genetic tools to survive, such as the ability to fight off and survive certain health issues, for example, although they did leave Homo sapiens with some nasty stuff as well. And I think they are just one portion of our ancestors. But our close cousins did not become "modern humans". They helped us get there, as did other hominid species, but they became extinct. What little is left of them, survives in a small to slight percentage that is distinguishable in a portion of the human population today. Does not mean that they took that leap and became "modern humans". They just added to the stock that had already formed. Because the interbreeding events occurred with "modern humans".

I would say that it is more the case that they, along with other hominid species, helped us become more 'modern human'.

The argument that white Europeans are Neanderthals and therefore a different species of 'human' to 'black people', which is essentially what timojin is arguing (he has argued this previously), is simply incorrect. You do understand that this is what he is arguing, yes? Do you think he is correct? That as someone with European ancestry, you are therefore a Neanderthal and thus, a "modern man", compared to "man" in Africa? In other words, you are a different species.

Not a paleobiologist, but the number don't impress me.

Neanderthals were an ancestor of modern Europeans. They cannot be considered a separate species using the common definition of species. The first Europeans overlapped in time and mated with indigenous Neanderthals to form a distinct population, which then mixed with eastern farmers and then populations from the Russian Steppes (who carried the gene for pale skin). So we see a gradual blurring of what it means to be a Neanderthal as the genes mixed. The story of humanity is not one of clear branching, but of a complex web of interbreeding with other lineages of human.
