Emotions sense good and bad

My personal insight as led me to this claim. I'm not sure if there is any way to test it out, but I wish to share it:

When you, for example, look at nature, then all the information of the trees, rivers, etc. is flowing through your brain. The moment you get a positive emotion from nature, then that naturalistic information in the brain gets combined with that positive emotional state. Thus, producing a positive emotion that literally contains a naturalistic quality to it. The same thing would apply if you got a positive emotion from looking at something artificial such as a lit flashlight. The positive emotion would take on the artificial tone of that flashlight. So, instead of seeing the flashlight and all its qualities, you are actually feeling all of its qualities. It would be no different than tasting a sweet piece of candy.

You could either look at the piece of candy and all its sweet and delicious attributes, or you can taste them. In a way, I guess you could consider our positive emotions to be the taste we get from life itself. This means that, as I explain later on here, emotions are a sense like taste, sight, hearing, etc. Now, here's where things get interesting. I established earlier that our positive emotions are like the sense of taste. This means that if we have a good value judgment from nature or a lit flashlight that makes us feel a positive emotion from these stimuli, then we are sensing something good in our lives. Likewise, when we have a bad value judgment that makes us feel a negative emotion, then we are sensing something bad in our lives. Therefore, our positive emotions are a sense like sight and hearing.

Without them, then we can see nothing good in our lives because it would be no different than a blind person. No value judgment this blind person makes can allow him to see just as how no value judgment of our lives having good value to us can allow us to see any good value without our positive emotions. The same thing applies to negative emotions. By the way, many people make a distinction between two types of emotions. The first type they would describe as the "lower emotions." These emotions are euphoric or dysphoric states. For example, a state of euphoria would be what I've described earlier as being a state induced by the brain's biochemicals such as a feeling of excitement or joy from the idea of getting a new movie, a feeling of love, or a generalized feeling of well being (i.e. calmness and relaxation).

As for the 2nd type of emotions, these are the higher impulses. They would be something such as choosing to help someone in need when you don't have the 1st type of positive emotions at all. I personally think these 2nd type of emotions aren't anything at all. They do not allow us to perceive our lives as having any value to us. So, I will be referring solely to the 1st type of emotions when I discuss my whole theory to you in this topic.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what your point is.
Yes we have emotions. Some people look at a nature scene and have a positive emotion others have a negative emotion. Without emotions we would be emotionless. We make value judgements based on our emotions.
    This all seems pretty obvious.
    What am I missing?

I think you will find out soon

    Something along the lines

"emotions cannot be explained by science and my theory is..."

Alright, let me make my theory more coherent for you then:

Perceiving value in your life is not a thought form of awareness at all. Rather, it is an emotional awareness. This means that our emotions do not have some sort of mind control effect on us and make us perceive, through our thinking, our lives having value to us. It is purely the emotions themselves that allow us to see the value in our lives. If this makes no sense to you, then continue reading on and everything should make sense. But let me just say something here that I think might allow this to make sense to you. It would be no different than sight. Thoughts alone when we are blind do not allow us to see objects.

It is only sight that allows us to see objects just as how it is only our emotions that allow us to see the good and bad value that things and situations hold in our lives. So, continuing on here. Most people would tell me that feelings are nothing more than just feelings and that it is our thoughts (value judgments) that make our lives valuable to us. I am actually reversing this. I am saying that thoughts are nothing more than just thoughts and that it is instead our emotions that make our lives valuable to us.

So, I would actually be turning the tables around here. In short, most of the world would tell me that it is our thoughts that truly matter and that it's the thought that counts. But I am saying that it is instead our emotions that truly matter and that it's the emotion that counts. In order for this reversed idea to hold true, then emotions would have to be a sense like sight. They would have to sense good and bad. This is because emotions don't have thoughts. They can't have value judgments to make our lives valuable to us. Therefore, this is what my theory talks about.

With all of this being said, it is not our value judgments (thoughts) that allow us to see the value in our lives. These value judgments (thoughts) instead make us feel positive or negative emotions and it is through these emotions that we either see good value (positive emotions) or bad value (negative emotions) in regards to certain things or situations.

I am well aware of that. However, it is not our value judgments (thoughts) that allow us to see the value in our lives. These value judgments (thoughts) instead make us feel positive or negative emotions and it is through these emotions that we either see good value (positive emotions) or bad value (negative emotions) in regards to certain things or situations.

You don't need to explain further. That seems obvious. If that is your only point then I was not missing anything you are just stating the obvious and calling it a theory.
That seems obvious. What besides our emotions could make our life valuable to us?

You are turning the table around for someone who thinks our emotions are not what makes our lives valuable to us, and I don't know who thinks that.

When doing a math problem our thoughts are what counts not our emotions, when determine the value of your life or your happiness it is emotions that count, I do not see the big revelation here.

So it is not our value judgements (thoughts)

which allows us to see value in our lives

    The value judgements (thoughts) instead

make us feel positive or negative (value judgements) emotions

and it is through these (value judgement emotions)

we either see good (value judgement)(positive emotion (value judgement)) or

bad (value judgement)(negative emotion (value judgement))

in regards to certain things or situations?

Did I get that correct? Did I miss any ()kets?

Normally this would be a two cup of coffee twister but it is 1am here

    Going back a bit

This would have to be the worst case of anthropomorphism I have ever seen

The subject does not even have physicality, it is an emotion being given human characteristics or more accurately being described as not having a particular human characteristic, that of thought

What ever the final published paper is on this thought bubble I think I personally am going to to need a bigger cup of coffee

Many people think this way and I think it needs to change. You are wrong when you say that we already know that emotions are the only things that allow us to see value in our lives. There are many miserable and depressed people out there who give the advice of carrying on in life anyway and that such a way of living can be perceived as having good value and worth to you. Take Michael 345's post, for example.

When you have a thought (value judgment), then we could consider this to be nothing more than just a word/phrase going through your mind. It would just be an idea such as that the sunset is something beautiful to you. However, once this thought makes you feel a positive emotion, then this value judgment has taken on a form that is beyond any idea or words to make that sunset something beautiful to you beyond words. That value judgment is now an actual emotional state. It is like turning the word "good" into some divine life force or energy that is literally good. This divine energy will take on different forms (feel different). For example, if you felt a positive emotion from the idea of a sunset being beautiful to you versus the idea of going on a vacation, then these feelings will be different. So, you would be perceiving different qualities of goodness. Objects themselves do not possess intrinsic goodness or badness. Rather, we perceive good and bad value towards objects through our emotions.

Is this your way of saying you are fed up with me? I apologize if I made you upset or fed up with me. All I was saying was that I really do think the world does not know this because there were many famous and inspirational figures out there who were depressed/miserable and didn't have their positive emotions. You act as though it is an established scientific fact that our emotions are what allow us to see value in our lives. I have never heard of this scientific fact being presented anywhere. All I've been hearing was that we just need to carry on, help others, inspire others, etc. even while life is a bummer and that such a way of living can be of good value to us.

For example, many people would say that, even if you felt upset or angry and no euphoria at all, that choosing to not act out on that anger can be of good value to you. I don't think it can. I think the person would just be choosing to resist the anger and nothing more. I think it can only be the emotional lifestyle that can be a valuable and worthwhile life to us.

    What about fear?

If you felt nothing but fear, then escaping from a dangerous situation would not be of good value to you. Rather, you would have escaped from this situation because it was such a horrible situation to you.

Actions can not only be acted out according to something being good to you, but also something being bad or horrible to you. That is where I was getting at with that fear example.

If you would like me to further clarify on this, then if you acted out because you felt anger from someone and this person was horrible to you, then these would be actions performed based upon a negative mindset. The same thing applies to escaping from danger. It wouldn't be a positive mindset at all to escape from said danger. It would be nothing but a negative mindset providing you had nothing but feelings of fear and no feelings of euphoria. Therefore, I think it can only be the emotional lifestyle that can be a valuable and worthwhile life to us.
