What to do with the US (under Trump)?
One 33 year old, insecure, ready to kill, isolated baby boy has got the Trump rattled?

To me there appears to be a sinister plan from US side. Will check up if North Korean land has hidden oil or minerals or precious metal mines or US want a base in NK to have some proximate control over China region?

Hmm... While you're checking, see if there are any similar countries nearby not run by a lunatic despot, perhaps one a little friendlier to the US and open to the presence of an American military base. If only there were two Koreas...

not getting what you wish to say....but the fact is US of A have to make a case to invade and then play with the bounty.....bad baby boy, immature in world's view, lack of genuine international support, his despotic nonsense, mass murder, nukes, isolation etc are self declared valid points for US to come forward, invade and take away the oil and minerals, and make base to.

On the matter of successful bluffing and negotiating:
    http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/10/politics/north-korea-trump-nominations-vacancies/index.html

It's a bit worse than it looks, btw: the appointed and confirmed (in May) ambassador to China, Terry Branstad, http://www.desmoinesregister.com/st...ernor-becomes-u-s-ambassador-china/341852001/ nearly three months later apparently has not actually gone to China yet, and likewise with a couple of others. That is, afaik there's no US ambassador in China or South Korea right now. ( Not that there's much to look forward to from the likes of Branstad , whose record in Iowa is mostly the kind normally referred to as "business friendly", finding common ground with the Chinese).

And it's a bit better than it looks: the acting performer of the duties of these dozens of Korea-relevant unfilled positions is in several cases a holdover Obama appointee of some kind, and although unable to do the whole job probably represents a higher level of competence than we see in Trump's appointees so far.

"North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been briefed on a plan to fire missiles towards the US Pacific territory of Guam, state media says."

Oh please, do it, DO IT! DO IT FAGGOT!!! If this becomes a bluff off between two pigs... sad. I mean people won't die, but still disappointing.

Given all the hysterics over the latest military exercises under way perhaps the USA administration could give an open invite to NK to send a team to officially observe them .... next time...
Make a public invite via the media and so the world and NK hears of it and send them an official invite to see whats going on... Could deal with the paranoia better that way...

    wadda ya think?

    North Korean battle of egos.
An Aussie in Japan Solution perhaps.

Get a large inflatable target similar to that inflatable duck the Chinese are using to ridicule Trump and tow it off the coast of Japan. Then challenge Kimmy of NK via the worlds media to try and hit it with one of his silly missiles.

Make sure the world's media is watching and placing bets on whether he can hit the mark or not...I bet he can't but who knows maybe he can....bookmaker's paradise!

seriously, I reckon it would defuse the issue tremendously and maybe change the way NK does business with the rest of the world and vice verse.

How about the next time we see a missile test being set up, we send a cruise missile to that location?

Every nation wants legitimacy of some sort.

What has the DPRK done to warrant being seen by the rest of the world as legitimate? Aside from developing a nuclear weapons capability, I'd say nothing of note. As far as I can tell, the DPRK/KJU developed nuclear capability so they could (1) threaten nuclear attack if the rest of the world doesn't agree to trade with them on favorable-to-the-DPRK terms and (2) exert their will in effecting the conclusion to the as yet unconcluded war the DPRK initiated in 1950 when it crossed the 38th parallel. The conclusion the DPRK today desires is the same one it sought in 1950s. Quite simply, the DPRK's leaders have witnessed the ROK emerge as on of the "Four Tigers" while it has not.

    In my estimation, yes.

It seems to me that we and the rest of the world will have to acquiesce to there being however many deaths there be wherever they be. Why?
    • The Korean War's political solution of there being two Koreas existing in a state of armistice created something what it sees as a buridanic state of affairs and that the DPRK today finds unacceptable.
    • The DPRK essentially offers only Hobsonian choices which the ROK and U.S. see as Mortonian.
I find it hard to fathom that such a situation as that has anywhere to go but armed conflict to resolve it -- one way or another.

As for the the DPRK's "allies" Russia and China, well, from where they stand there's no way for them to lose unless they allow themselves to be drawn into armed conflict as a DPRK ally. Any nuclear weapon the DPRK explodes on US soil or in outer space will diminish US economic might in the global marketplace and military might.
    • Explode a nuke in space over the US and the US, perhaps Canada and Mexico too, immediately becomes, technologically, a Civil War era nation because nothing that is electronic and on when the nuke explodes will work afterwards. For all intents and purposes, the U.S. would become, at best, the peer of the DPRK, ISIS, and any other two-bit nation on the planet, or , even worse, their subordinate.
    • Explode a nuke over Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco Seattle or Portland and material parts of the US economy and economic exchange are destroyed for the foreseeable future.
What is the alternative? The US should, IMO, preemptively eliminate the threat and face the consequences of doing so, most of which will likely be "lip service."
    • China doesn't truly give a damn about the DPRK or KJU. China merely likes that the DPRK keeps a US ally a good ways distant from the Chinese boarder. They like that as much for military purposes as for social purposes. Were the US to obliterate the DPRK, China still has a buffer zone -- namely a nuclear wasteland -- between itself and a US ally.
    • Russia cares about the DPRK only insofar as it's a partner that will buy stuff from them, but the DPRK doesn't buy that much stuff from Russia. Russia's fortunes in no way depend on it's trade with the DPRK. (Neither do China's)
The rest of the world will gripe about our having exploded some nukes. They'll get over it eventually.

I think you will find that the decisions have already been made, the red line trigger points already determined.

There seems to be a lot of exceptionalist rhetoric in here.
    Why?

Can you cite some specific statements that strike you thus? I'm asking because there are some 150+ posts and you've apparently come across exceptionalism, whereas I've (obviously) not read as many or the same posts you have.

If you merely mean that many posters in this thread remark about the DPRK as though it is exceptional, well, okay. But then how else might remark about the DPRK? KJU has gone out of his way to take actions and express a degree of animus that no other nation state in recent history has. That makes him and his regime exceptional.

    My take:
It ain't our problem nor should it be our purview to dominate every other country.
War is cruel, stupid and costly.
