No... seriously... https://www.buzzfeed.com/juliareins...e-self-evident?utm_term=.oreV5W0oJ#.qsQvXLaE5 So, NPR tweeted the Declaration of Independence yesterday (for those unfamiliar, in many areas of the US, reading the Declaration is an Independence Day tradition)... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! This is how some Trump supporters responded: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! If you claim to be a Patriot, and yet you don't even recognize the damned Declaration of Independence when you see it, then you are no Patriot. *headdesk* And then folks wonder why they are laughed at for supporting the great Cheeto... this kind of shit is why.
Well, they definitely aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. I think that's very obvious. Unfortunately on the right politics has become more of a religion than a political ideology, and that's dangerous. Arguing with them, trying to reason with them, is more like arguing with a religious zealot. They only hear what they want to hear and see what they want to see. In many ways they are reminiscent of that great horror movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" when an alien species took over humanity. It's right-wing radicalism. It's the kind of radicalism which has led to the deaths of millions of people. It's the kind of radicalism which led to the Jonestown massacre and mass sucide. This should be very disconcerting for everyone. When truth and reason no longer matter; it's going to be a rough ride. Let's hope we survive it.
I doubt that the entire declaration could be posted on twitter. OK circa early '70s An acquaintance tried using the Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness clause in defense for a drug bust for marijuana (the above declaration ain't part of our laws) Nice idea though.
Well, I mean, the pictures of their tweets are right there so... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Well, keep in mind that one of the strongest determinants of who you voted for in the last election was your educational level. From that perspective, this makes perfect sense.
To paraphrase John Stuart Mill: You don't have to be stupid to be conservative but most stupid people are conservative.
I am not sure I agree. I am conservative with my money , my sons are not ( they are open minded and liberal ) They are busted , and they ask the old stupid conservative for help,
As I said, you don't have to be stupid to be conservative. And being conservative isn't necessarily evil. It just depends on what you want to conserve.
I am conservative with my money as well. I am also conservative when it comes to the natural world, which is why I oppose coal power, mountaintop removal and toxic waste dumping. I am also conservative when it comes to energy - I generate my own and conserve as much as possible, and encourage others to do the same. I oppose people who pollute liberally, who violate other's rights liberally and who spend US money liberally without any plan to repay it. See? We're the same!
You are erroneously conflating fiscal prudence with the conservative ideology. The American "conservative" party is far from conservative. They are reckless, e.g. George 2.0. Trump's campaign promises and "yugh" fiscal stimulus promise. Folks like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are fiscally prudent yet they according to folks like you they are "liberal" and they support "liberal"candidates. The truth is Republicans or so called "conservatives" are anything but conservative in the true sense of the word.
Nope, I am registered as an independent. Republicans spend far too liberally, remove civil rights far too liberally and pollute far too liberally for my taste.
What the hell does that mean? The fact is these self described "conservatives" are anything but conservative. They have been and continue to be fiscally and otherwise reckless and radical.
Nope. He seemed to me a lot like Trump - a charismatic man without much in the way of policy or plans. (A lot smarter than Trump though.)
