Q: What did the the Portland muslim-shooter Jeremy Christian (link) and GOP ball practice Shooter James T. Hodgkinson (link) both have in common?
    A: They were Bernie followers.

First from Mr. Christian, I wonder if he was once active on this forum:

Mr. Hodgkinson too. They're definitely keepers.

This is untrue. The actual shooter was Bernie Sanders!

And yet, we have Eric Trump advocating that "Democrats aren't even people", Trump advocating beating up people who disagree with him (for years now), and then there was Rand Pauls statement "Why do we have a Second Amendment? It's not to shoot deer. It's to shoot at the government when it becomes tyrannical!"...

But yes, continue to blame this on Sanders, by all means. Just makes you look like a bigger fool.

Huh? I didn't blame Sanders. I'm just looking for a difference between yourself and the two nut jobs, and not having much luck at it.

Your grade school comments fit right in with Mr. Christian's monologue in the OP, by the way. Yes, you do a good job of reminding.

Similar with the broader anti-establishment movements of the '60s / early '70s. They don't just attract a Flower Children majority, but also the feral Charles Manson psychotropic clans, the SLA and WUO type revolutionaries, and assorted anarchist / nihilist / conspiracy zealots denning in western deserts, mountains, and hills.

While Bernie's branch of today's narrower rebellion might sport potentially violent antifa and whatever other rogue elements, in Trump's branch of it there's not necessarily anything even equivalent to a love-beads crowd. There's the curious feature of the two forks seeming to war more with each other than directing wrath at the establishment "or conventional way of doing things" that they were originally revolting against. (With the GOP squares ironically getting themselves conflated with the rightist hipsters due to their groveling to Trump. On the flip-side, Democrats might have similarly found themselves grudgingly brown-nosing Bernie if he had won, but probably with less embarrassment of genuflecting to a severely inexperienced POTUS or erratic madman.)

Well you see comrade Woody1 facts matter, and Jeremy Christian was a white supremacist; a neo-Nazi. That is not consistent with the ideology of Bernie Sanders. Only a complete idiot or an amoral partisan would make make the assertion you have made. Christian described himself as a white nationalist. His racism is more consistent with your man The Donald and is outright antithetical to the ideology of Bernie Sanders. Sanders isn't, nor has he ever been, a nationalist much less a white nationalist. The Donald is a self avowed nationalist who has garnered the support of white nationalists, e.g. KKK. It's those damn facts again comrade.

"Jeremy Joseph Christian had previously been convicted in 2002 of kidnapping and robbery of a convenience store, and was sentenced to 90 months in prison for that offense.[15] He was also arrested in 2010 on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and theft, but those charges were later dropped.[27] He held extremist views, posting neo-Nazi, antisemitic, and far-right material on social media,[28][29] as well as material indicating an affinity for political violence.[10] Christian described himself as a white nationalist.[30]The Oregonian noted that Christian made many contradictory Facebook posts, but that such contradictions are typical of extremists; his posts "reveal a comic book collector with nebulous political affiliations who above all else seemed to hate circumcision and Hillary Clinton". He at times expressed support for Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump, although he wrote that he did not vote.[29] According to friends and acquaintances, Christian's actions were becoming increasing unstable and he was in need of mental help, but he had not been given a formal diagnosis.[31]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Portland_train_attack#Suspect

Your own source has Jeremy Christian declaring he will vote for Donald Trump. He uses right-wing language like "cuck". And the original source disowning him from the right is none other than Mike Cernovich. His Bernie "support" is provocateurism; you can see it in the cynicism and lack of any liberalistic argument in his rantings.

We see a bunch of this in the larger discourse, even dealing with (hopefully less dangerous) versions of it here at Sciforums.

And it's not like right wing provocateurism is new or unique; the American right-wing has used it as a political tactic for decades. Rush Limbaugh did it in 2008 when he ordered his listeners to vote for Hillary rather than Obama. And Republicans did it again in 2016, but Bernie was the foil, and Hillary was the victim.

To our neighbor's attempted point, though, on balance the Portland terrorist's orientation was more anti-Hillary, pro-supremacist. Not only does he use alt-right language, he also uses their logic; he said he would vote Trump because, you know, Hillary. "Fuck you! I won't do what you tell me!" sounded a hell of a lot better than, "Fuck you! I'm going to blame you for what I do!"

I can accept mental illness comes in many colors, but we ought to note whose solutions the crazy guy ended up following.

    And Hillary haters, apparently.

Were they both Trump voters, or just one of them?

Good point. For many people, "by any means necessary" is the belief, not tolerance or peace. I'm not sure that's always wrong or crazy.
