The afterlife (also referred to as life after death or the hereafter) is the concept of a world, or the world itself (whether physical or transcendental), in which an essential part of an individual's identity or consciousness continues to exist after the death of the body. According to various ideas about the afterlife, the essential aspect of the individual that lives on after death may be some partial element, or the entire soul or spirit, of an individual, which carries with it and may confer personal identity or, on the contrary, may not, as in Indian nirvana. Belief in an afterlife, which may be naturalistic or supernatural, is in contrast to the belief in oblivion after death. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterlife OK Done that Now what? Many religious traditions (my own, in fact) do not posit an afterlife, and counsel members of the congregation to try and act with a sense of morality in THIS existence, NOW, and not to expect or anticipate a reward of a better life, no matter how much they sin or treat others badly in this one. The Catholic church lost a lot of followers over "indulgences", when Martin Luther took them to task for profiteering its congregation by promoting the spelendor of an afterlife of which they had no ownership or authority, or even the ear of their creator. For the religious traditions that do have an afterlife myth, it is held up as example or a reward to the pious or orthodox in exchange for living a life that is moral and ethical, according some preset standard or ideal. It's a superstition. It's all superstition. If you don't have proof of any of it, it just might be because nothing is there; it doesn't exist. Religion and superstition is a business science wants nothing to do with. Ask your religious leadership to build you your afterlife communications network. If they are rich enough from conning other followers, they will either do it for you, or else set up a prayer chain. Science eventually will be able to clone you, maybe even give you all of your former memories back, intact. Is that afterlife enough? How would you or your clone know, even if it wasn't? What is it you think makes you believe that you are so special to your creator, that he or she would prepare or reserve a place in an idyllic afterlife for you or others like you? Maybe the universe isn't about you. If you succeed in communicating with anyone in the afterlife, by all means, ask them about it. Did you know, a cerrtain messiah needed to go back in time to save the souls of Adam and Eve, so that we could all meet them in the afterlife? What drivel. Santa and the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy, too. If you think it will help, be sure and pray to them each night before falling asleep. If you are very fortunate, the aftelife will be something very much like that. Whether anyone left on this Earth misses or remembers you or not is entirely up to you. If that's not enough motivation for you do be a moral person, tough cookies. It's more than enough for me. What is your problem? Thanks for posting this in pseudoscience. It's a great example.
You had me up until the last sentence I feel you are wrong here ALL of the Universe IS about me I didn't know anything about the Universe before I was born And I didn't know much about it for some years after Now while my claim that the Universe is all about me may seem grandiose I extend the same respect to every other person in that the Universe is all about them The Universe is big enough that apart from collectively it is ALL about us as individuals (shades of we are all born equal) there are enough pockets of interest we can each engage in without stepping on another's patch I also accept that when I die the Universe will cease to exist FOR ME While I am compos mentis I also accept that after my death the Universe will continue to exist for others After I am dead and on the way to becoming compost deadost I not only won't give a damn about you others and the Universe I won't be able to I'm dead Summing up Alive - Universe ALL about me Dead - all about you lot Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I didn't say the universe wasn't about you, Michael, mainly because it most certainly is. I only meant, it isn't about ME. Sorry for not clarifying that.
Got you But you should be selfish to the degree the Universe is about you Claim your part and defend it Be fair and let others claim a part also Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
So instead of a piece you move around a board, use a photon generator where the photon can be moved towards one of two photon detectors. Photons have virtually no mass, so a spirit should be able to influence it, right?
