God, of course, could create any number of souls. Suppose he has already created, say, 200 billion souls, well by tomorrow morning, he will have created some more. Because he has infinite power and infinite resources at his command and plenty of time, he could create an infinite number of souls. However, the world is finite. No matter how many souls are actually planted in the world, that number will always be finite. A finite number is always a lot smaller than an infinite number. In fact, an infinite number is infinitely bigger than any finite number. It follows immediately that an infinite number of souls will never get the chance to go to Heaven. Many people think the holocaust was bad and malaria is worse, but this is infinitely worse.
The solution to your apparent dilemma is that, no matter how many souls are produced, there is no reason why every one of them wouldn't go to heaven.
I've always wondered how many chucks could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Anyone know?
chuck1 tʃʌk/ informal verb 1. throw (something) carelessly or casually. "someone chucked a brick through the window" synonyms:throw, toss, fling, hurl, pitch, cast, lob, launch, flip, catapult, shy, dash, project, propel, send, bowl;More 2. end a relationship with (a partner). "Mary chucked him for another guy" synonyms:leave, throw over, drop, finish with, stop going out with, break off one's relationship with, desert, abandon, leave high and dry Google 2.2 makes me wonder what type of wood is being required to be chucked Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Have you thought about souls being present on other worlds? I guess it still might mean a finite number accommodated Another guess is excess souls go straight to heaven without out going past Earth Which sort of leaves out the prospect of the devil gaining access to them Do sperm and ova get ½ a soul each? Because that's a hell of a lot of ½ soul wastage Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
My point is not about the ones actually produced, it's about the infinite number of ones that will never be produced because the world is finite.
About as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. Or zero if they can't. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Since my position, and I am suspecting many others, is souls do not exist Holding that view - souls do not exist - leads me to be concerned that you are concerned about the production of a infinite number of non existent souls ie they don't exist in the first place so there is no need to be concerned about them not being produced I need a coffee Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
If God had created an infinite world, something well within his capabilities, then he could have planted an infinite number of souls in the world, all in one go. All of those potential souls never had a chance to experience the joy of Heaven. He didn't do it. He chose a finite number - the lucky ones. All the others got no chance. It's a form of contraception by God, which, as we all know, is an anathema to the Holy Church.
You have finite memory, even God. If God tried counting to infinity he would run out of numbers and eternity would end.
What does a finite world have to do with Heaven? Why wouldn't there be room for an infinite number of souls in Heaven?
Why would that be the thing God couldn't do? I guess that means Mathematics is the real God and god is only a demi-god? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
