To what extent is evidence important in philosophy?

p.s. I must apologize for the poor grammar and spacing in post 177. It's a mess, but perhaps a good test to show the flexibility of the human MNS.
I am having eye surgery next week.

Of course all food must be cleansed before peparation. But killing harmful internal bacteria, cooking at a specific temperature and time is required.

I used to raise pigs and this may be of interest. Pigs are especially vulnerable to ticks (which may carry Lime disease). As a preventive measure, place a 6' pole firmly in the ground at a 45 degree angle. Wrap the pole with jute bags and soak the wrapping with clean motor oil. Pigs love to rub and will use that pole regularly, coating their skin with the oil. This does not harm the pig (it does not absorb the oil, but will kill any skin infestation, keeping the pig's skin very clean. Just a little trick I learned from an old timer. It works perfectly, living in the forest, we never had a problem with ticks on our pigs. Personally I have picked up a tick or two while walking through the trees and brush.

Comercial beef is raised with anti-biotics in their feed. This may help in combatting livestock disease, but I wonder about the secondary effects on humans when consuming "treated" foods of any kind on a regular basis..

Would you prefer eat diseased cattle or healthy cattle with residual antibiotics? How about hamburger made of beef tumor, or sound hamburger with traces of antibiotics?

That's somewhat of a false dilemma, isn't it, as it assumes that meat is not tested for disease, and that diseased meat will therefore pass into our food chain. Meat testing happens. Diseased meat gets rejected.

Further, the issue write4U is raising is not one of pros and cons of using antibiotics in the animal feeds but simply of the currently unknown issues, if indeed there are any, of eating such treated food.

Would you say that you consider science to be another form of philosophy? While all of this evidence could help support one's philosophical view points on a topic, is it necessary when we're in the philosophy sub forum to have to provide this?

IMO, both science and philosophy fundamentally rest on observation and its implications. A scientific hypothesis is an abstract *mathematical* philosophy until proven to be true or false., where philosophic theory is a *logical* exercise, examining the abstract implications of observed patterns in the physical world..
I see no remarkable functional difference between philosophy and meta-physics, just a difference in abstract perspective and associated language..
