The heart is a pump & has no brain-like features/functions.

Those who consider it more than a pump either died at least 100 years ago or are ignorant of anatomy.

The notion was reasonable 100 or more years ago due to its beating faster when a person faced danger.

The conclusion is that the heart "could come into the picture". How scientific is that?

In my heart I feel they may have something.

The notion that physiological stuff can have feedback influence on one's thinking and cognition is as old as the advice to smile if you want to feel better, duplicate your physical position of study when taking tests, and kneel or bow to pray.

It also indicates the differences between relationships with the gods - Christians kneeling and bowing (grovelling), Ancient Greeks standing with arms outstretched and heart exposed and undefended.

I would tend to agree, if it were not for this remarkable experiment. I cannot vouch for its reliability.

A still beating adult heart was placed in a petri dish next to a beating infant heart placed in a seperate petri dish.

Infant hearts beat at a faster rate than adult hearts, but remarkably after a few moments the infant heart began to slow down until was in perfect synchrony with the adult heart.

Is this woo or could there possibly some sensory ability of say electromagnetic pulses?

Comes to mind electro cardio shock for heart attacks, but that is at gross levels.

Surely you have a video showing this along with reference to details?

What was keeping both hearts beating?

    Yes it can

Primarily as noted in one of the answers in your link via the sino-atrial node where heart beats originate and ripple through the heart

A sort of back up system which itself has a backup

However while the node can keep the heart beating for a short time without signals from the brain the beats are a lot weaker

So unless the hearts have an artificial pace maker along with a sufficient oxygenated blood supply I can not see the hearts lasting long

Electo cardio shock or electrical cardio version or defibrillation is not treatment for heart attacks

It might be used in the field so to speak where a accurate diagnosis may be hard to obtain

A heart attack is from a blockage of a blood vessel of the heart

    Treatment is remove the blockage

A heart which suffering from fibrillation, caused by many signals from auxiliary nodes in the heart muscle, manifest as a weak uncoordinated heart beat and rapid pulse

Defibrillation is the treatment via a electric shock externally across the heart

Sort of related is the method to restart the heart which has been stopped for surgical reasons

There small paddles are placed either side of the heart

While electrical currents generate magnetic fields I very much doubt the heart generates a field of any significant size

As to the core of your question

my Woo detector is in the lower RED zone but the bells and whistles have not gone off

Pending much much MUCH more information I would call this Woo

Possibly a over exaggerate experiment with very questionable speculations with the hopes of a book

    From Write4U Post #11
It is woo, merely being an anecdote with no mention of supporting evidence.

To me it belongs in the category of extraordinary claims which require extraordinary supporting evidence.

The anecdote has the following flaws

I do not believe a heart in a petri dish would beat at all.

The anecdote seems to require communication between hearts while external to supporting human bodies. There is little (if any) supporting evidence for such communication while each heart is supported by a human body.

The heart is a pump. The above anecdote requires it to be something far more complex than a pump.

I recall some cynic suggesting that, in love songs, wherever the word "heart" appears, you can substitute the word "dick" without materially altering the meaning. This leads to some very funny song titles, my personal favourite being "Dickbreak Hotel". Ah well, we've all been there..........

With a variety of suggestions from friends, the following song titles are proof that the substitution of "dick" does indeed not change the sense at all:

    Your Cheatin' Heart
    Sheer Heart attack
    Achy breaky Heart
    Straight from the Heart
    Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Somethin's Got a Hold of My Heart......
